When we were in school we were taught that there are four pillars of democracy one of which were media. The reason why media is considered a pillar of democracy is quite simple.
It is really a powerful body that has a great significant on the people. Media can really play a effective role in making democracy to remain democracy in reality.
The sad thing is that the opposite of this thing is also true. If media does not recognise it's position and do not work as it should work for the people then it can be dangerous than cancer.
Democracy is the power given to common people so that they can select government for the people , by the people , and of the people.
By that all the four pillars should also follow that but media is no more for the people , they don't speak up the truth or they don't bring the issues that is being faced by the people.
They are now busy praising the party that is in power. They have been sold out and they have forgot their role now.
There are very few reporters and channels that show the truth and that actually is doing their job correctly but government does everything they can to eliminate the people speaking truth.
That's why media is no more a pillar of democracy, atleast in most of the countries it is not. What do you say about my statement ?
Thank you
In my opinion they were never "a pillar of democracy" but in nowdays it is more than obvious
