Anyone into Emulators?

I came across the concept recently, after a game I ordered didn't play right, and then spent the last few hours trying to modify my wii to be able to play games from the older consoles that I really enjoy. Somewhere along the way I messed up, and I can't figure out where. If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd prefer to use my wii, because I already have it, but if the process is easier or more effective with an emulator console, let me know which one to look for. Thank you all in advance for your help!
