About Chhanga Manga:

Location:

Changa Manga is a planted forest and a wildlife park in the middle of Kasur District and Lahore District, situated in Punjab, Pakistan. It is located 80 km south-west of the city of Lahore - about one hour's drive. Enter the forest from a road off the N-5 Highway near Bhai Pheru and Chunian. There is also a Changa Manga resort on this site. The resort is beautiful and one of the best places of the area.

  • The wildlife park in Changa Manga covers an area of 40 acres ( which seems to be kinda good) and it was built in 2008. The park is home to species of:

  • Hog ddeer

  • Indian peafowl

  • Jackal, mouflon

  • Neel gai (a kind of cow)

  • Wild boar

Changa Manga Wildlife Park is one of the three wildlife parks located in Lahore Division - other two are:

  • Jallo Wildlife Park
  • Lahore Zoo Safari (also called Woodland Wildlife Park)

What does Chhanga Manga means:

It's kinda funny that how the name of this forest came. Lol.
The name "Changa Manga" comes from the old story of two brother thieves, Changa and Manga, who both used to hide in thick forests, along with their loots. Over the passage of time the stories have been molded into adventures that every child in that area is told, with added morals. And hence the name of the both thieves brothers become name of this forest.

  • I don't know if it's a myth or realty ๐Ÿ˜…

Area and species in forest:

The forest covers an area of 48.6 sq km (12,000 acres) and is one of the largest man-made forests in the world. The planting and irrigation of the land took place in the 19th century under the British Raj due to the need for timber for the Indian Railways network. The most common species of trees are:

  • Sheesham (Dalbergia sissoo)
  • Kikar (Acacia nilotica)

both members of the Fabaceae native to the Indian subcontinent, white mulberry (Morus alba) which is popular in cultivation throughout South Asia, or Eucalyptus and Populus species.

Did I visit this place:

Yes of course I've been on this place a couple of years ago. The atmosphere there was quite amazing and cool. For me it is the one of the touring place for picnic in Pakistan. People come there and enjoy a lot.
Here are my couple of pictures when I visited this place.
