1. Low level of education in family planning and increased birth rate

Due to belief of following the steps of the ancestors, most nigerians refuse to adhere to new laws that teaches birth control measures, thereby giving birth to plenty children.

2. Male child preference

Male child is always the head of a family after the demise of the parents and it's the male child that bears the family name. Because of this factor, families try as much as possible to give birth to male children which in turn populates the country.

3. Immigration and Emigration

In search for better living, people move from one country to another, from small cities to bigger ones which ends up populating the bigger cities.

4. Cultural influence

Even after the emergence of modern technology, most tribe still adhere to the rules of their culture which is lots of child birth.

5. Medical care improvement

This is actually an advantage, but it's also a cause of over population in nigeria.
Due to the improvement of medical care in nigeria, more life's are saved in a hospital which in turns populates the country.

Natural Gases, coal etc are been overused.
This gases emits smoke to the atmosphere which in turn depletes the ozone layer.

4. High cost of living

Due to expansion in the difference between demand and supply, prices of food, shelter etc are on the rise too which in turns affects the cost of living.

5. Poverty

Citizens are exposed to deadly pandemic and epidemic due to over crowding, which affects mainly the poor because of lack of money for adequate treatment.

In other to control over population, this few remedy should be applied by the nigerian government.

1. Education

Education should be given to the mass on the dangers of over population and solution should be suggected to them too.

2. Empower women

Women who are empowered knows how to control birth in other to maintain their job etc.
With this, over population can be controlled to some extent.

3. Restriction of child marriage

Child marriage is dominant in some part of the country.
The government should try their best to restrict this marriage because it can lead to over population.

There are more factors that can help control over population in a country such as encourage of family planning, legalizing contraceptives, reducing immigration numbers etc.
