According to the mythology of Northern Europe, gnomes are elemental mythological beings of the land in which they live, working in mines, guarding underground treasures and caring for precious metals and stones. It is also said that they steal from ambitious and wealthy people. They are represented small and with a humanoid appearance.
The gnomes form a supernatural people of very small and invisible beings, endowed with singular cunning.
They are fantastic beings that appear in stories, cartoons, etc. They are usually represented in ceramics in the gardens of some houses, predominantly in Western countries.
SOURSE The gnomes possessed prescience, they knew the secrets of the Earth and were the soul of it. Kabbalists claimed that air, earth, water and fire were stirred thanks to the invisible beings that animated these elements. According to the Kabbalists, the Hebrew god Yahweh assigned the empire of fire to the salamander, that of air to the sylphs, that of water to the undines and that of the earth - not on the surface but inside - to the gnomes. These lived in the metallic figures of the globe, inside the caves, filled with stalactites of wonderful effect. They were the guardians of the gold and silver mines.
The gnomes, although they do not belong properly to mythology but to superstition, are reminiscent of the telquines and the cabiros, geniuses who represent metalwork worshiped by the Greeks in localities of a volcanic nature. However, the mythologists have said nothing so far that we know that there could be a relationship between these mythical characters from Greece and the gnomes. These were distributed with the Pythagorean philosophy throughout the globe and although they underwent several modifications, as they were accommodated to the different cultures of the peoples, they always preserved the character of owners of the empire of the earth and guardians of its mines. The stature of these little geniuses progressed downward to the smallest.

Other origin
In 1200, a Norwegian named Frederik Ugarph found a wooden sculpture in a poor fisherman's house in Trondheim. Frederik Ugarph bought the sculpture from him, made of a very hard wood, stronger than oak, and with a height of 15 cm (not counting the pedestal). At the base was written Nisse, riktig storrelse, which means "gnome, royal stature."
SOURSE Garden gnomes are mysterious figures that give off a magical aura. Many legends have spread about the fantastic properties of these creatures, although their original function was to keep the domestic animals from the barns, give good luck and take care of the harvest and the garden.
The creation of these little creatures began in 17th century Germany, later spread to England in 1840 and today they are present all over the world. The development of technology in our modern society has not been able to put an end to this centuries-old tradition.

Its design can imitate the traditional forest pixie with bright colors, which you can sometimes paint yourself in a different and more modern way. Although there are also new collections of these very innovative statuettes, with new aerodynamic and monochromatic shapes, never seen before. The catalog of these giblets grows every day.

If you choose to place them on your plot, do it in a place that can be seen by everyone, although, be careful! if it is very exposed it can be a very sweet object to steal. If they are integrated in a natural way in the landscape, they can go unnoticed. They brighten up the exterior landscape of your house and are a very 'kitsch' element for decoration. Children (and adults) can have a lot of fun with them.

SOURSE If in the end you ‘adopt’ one, you have to be careful. The sun and rain can remove the paint or at least wear them, so it will be convenient that you renew the color from time to time. They are also a very attractive item for thieves. The superstitions that revolve around these little ones have made many people fear them: some believe that they have a soul and there have been cases in which they have been stolen and then released in the forests. Many think they have a life of their own ...
