A dusting of summer snow and a whisper of cloud is all that is left after a 24 hour storm. Mitre Peak, or Rahotu in Māori, rises 1690m (5,560ft) from the water of the sound. The peak is named after the distinctive shape of mitre headwear worn by Christian bishops. Milford Sound or Piopiotahi , technically a fjord, is located in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park. One of the worlds highest mean annual rainfalls of 6,412 mm (252 in) each year makes mornings like this even more special. Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site, New Zealand
