She's done fantastic keeping these winter chicks alive too!
This has been a very interesting journey. After a hen went broody on some gourds, Pinkie-Pepper gave her some fertilized eggs which she hatched... in mid-January. Since then, we've had a lot of freezing temperatures and even a couple of snow storms.
Today she was out and about with her brood once again. They peck around the yard, and even explore the patches of ice and snow left over from the storms. When they get too cold, they'll run back under their mama hen to warm back up. In these photos, which I took earlier today, one chick decided to peek out from under the mama hen. The four other chicks were hidden beneath her warm, fluffy feathers. Enjoy the photos.
