FULL DISCLOSURE: I am not a medical professional. This is not medical advice. In case you have doubts about using this sort of infection barrier absolutely do consult a physician.

The fact is that in this age of the coronavirus (COVID-19) we are, to some degree, on our own. The virus is a serious potential threat, its spread has not and likely will not be contained - though it may be slowed down if we handle it intelligently, no treatment for it exists and hence should we get exposed, we only have our own immune systems to address the issue.

So in light of that I decided to experiment a bit with home remedies. What you see on my face is a cloth face mask soaked in a mix of water, olive oil and various spices - turmeric, curry powder and a few more. It felt a bit stingy for the first half hour or so - so if you have respiratory issues such as asthma, for instance - you likely need to be careful with this sort of solution. As for me, it felt quite comfortable - and helped the cold I had. (And yes, it was just a cold, not COVID-19, as I had no fever but massively runny nose.)

And it is heartening that I am not the only one thinking along those lines. A group in Israel (Sonovia) is developing masks made of special fabric with infused metallic nanoparticles which is expected to have a strong anti-pathogen effect. But based on what I have read even my home-made solution may be useful in decreasing viral and bacterial exposure. And for what it is worth it definitely helped my cold that day.

I think it would definitely help your cold! Lol. I doubt it will prevent the virus. Unless you are in an at risk category, I am sure you will be fine.

That is obviously not a bulletproof solution - but I don't see why it can not lower the viral load and thus prevent infection for some people, all other things being equal.
