Aloha! Not as fancy as Hawaii but the yumminess is guaranteed!
Here we go again, the 100% #SFW porn post. Let's get back into the foodie memories a few years back and let your mouth waters! All the food I will be sharing today are from Koh Lanta, or Lanta Island Thailand. I went there with my boyfriend in March 2017. It's been a while but I remembered all the things and..
of course, I can explain like a pro! It's Thai food!
Also, by saying it's 'island food'. Instead of the most authentic Thai possible or anything like that, it's more like a mixture of food culture and most of the people who live and travel there are most likely expats and travelers so, prepare for some colorful food from places!
Pad Thai, shall we?
Start with something you might already know so then we can go beyond it. Ahem! Way Beyond Pad Thai. Wait..what?
Anyways, a world-famous Thai dish called 'Pad Thai' a stir-fried rice noodle with some sweet and sour sauce. The key ingredients for the sauce are palm sugar and tamarind! Oooooh! Doensn't that sound crazy for you already? It's sweet, sour, salty and all combine. Spice it up with some chili flakes then you're good to go!
Spicy raw shrimps salad!
Oooooh! Can't go wrong with this one. It's like Japanese sashimi but we have it spicy! I love raw shrimps! Please don't ask if I like it better than raw fish. It's a whole different story. This one you get a bit of a chewy texture to it somewhat.
Garlic and bitter melon is a must along with it. I you haven't tried this when you go visit Thailand, next time, please do!
Super popular 'Koh Lanta' wood oven pizza
When you visit Koh Lanta, this is a MUST! It's one of the popular ones. I knew this place because they have a branch in Bangkok. Famous for there wood oven pizza. The place called 'Lanta Pizza'. Once we're there at its origin, we just can't pass it!
Also, you would be surprised by how we eat pizza in Thailand. We put everything on it. Beyond imagination. Imagine shrimps, octopus, big chunk of chicken and all that. Oh! We add ketchup and chili powder for some more flavors afterward too. #lol I know what you're thinking. Sorry!
Oyster Omelette
Ooh! Another one of my favs! A crispy omelet with the soft and smooth oyster inside paired with some sweet and sour sauce. Most of the time you will find it sold along with Pad Thai as it goes together really well. Also, the fact that it's served on the island, can you find even fresher oyster than this? Love it!
Spicy glass noodle salad
One more spicy salad. We love it here in Thailand. Everything salad! This one combine the glass noodle, veggies with some seafood then lime juice, fish sauce, and fresh chili. Good to go! All the flavors combined and it would actually make your day even hotter than it already is.
Sometimes, we put instant noodles instead of glass noodles too. That also gives a really nice texture to it.
Stir-fried with basils
Another thing that would spice the day up real good is a spicy stir-fry with basil. We do this kind of stir-fry with all kinds of meat. Since we're here on the island, Koh Lanta, of course, we went with seafood! I love how this place makes it not too saucy. The rice was also cooked perfectly!
$1 grilled quail
I heard, in some countries, quail is consider 'delicacy'. Uh uh no, not here in Thailand. Well, I don't see this very often either but here on Koh Lanta at the weekly food market, they have this grilled whole quail for $1. It's delicious! Like a little chicken but a bit firmer and more exotic!
Giant ribs!
We happened to stay at a hostel owned by an English guy who loves to BBQ! So burgers and ribs are served here! I swear, that's one of the biggest I have ever had in my life and it costs roughly just $10!
Good meat, cold beer and a breeze from the sea along with some music. Dang it! I miss the vibes!
Fresh rolled ice-cream
Foreigners love this! A lot! and I still don't understand exactly why because after all, it's ice-cream! Wait, maybe you could tell me reasons from a point of view of people from different countries.
It's this small street stall that has a creamy liquid and some other topping for you to choose from. Once you order, they're going to start preparing it by pour the cream onto a really cold pan (liquid nitrogen) and mixing it around with the toppings you choose. Have it frozen and lay it flat then roll it up, put a few all together in a cup to make it almost like a bouquet of flowers. Freshly made too!
Wait, now I might understand why they're so excited about it. Sounds cool and fun, doesn't it?
Acai bowl!
There's one and only Acai bowl place on Koh Lanta at the time. This is not exactly Thai food. It's more like 'Farang (foreigner) food' I would say. It costs too much compared to the average Thai street food prices ($1-2 a meal). We went for it anyway as I always love some healthy and delicious food.
Also, the weather on the island (and in Thailand in general) really encourages us to get some once in a while. It's hot as h***!
Same idea goes to a big bowl of yogurt with some granola and tropical fruits! Mmmmmm!!
Alrightly, that's pretty much it for our few days visit to Koh Lanta, Thailand. It's our first island trip together so it was nice and sweet. Lots of good food also made it even more memorable!
Hope you enjoy all the food porn as while going through all this, I actually enjoyed them myself. Almost had that foodgasm right there, just wow! #lol
