Manneke Pis - 1619

The boy you see on this picture, peeing wherever he likes is the most kidnapped and demolished kid in history. If you like to meet him you have to visit a museum where the fixed him after the last time his corpse was found in the canal. It looks as if this bronze boy still misses an essential body part or did they change him into a girl?

Although, this statue is (made) famous and the mascotte of Brussels this is not the eldest one and it is likely that this sculptor used the older one for a model (and indeed took the credit).

Why does the boy pee and keep peeing?

  • A bad habit of boys/men to litter the streets and don't care about the smell of (medieval) cities? Did a witch put a spell on this badly raised, annoying kid and was the spell moved on the bronze boy instead?
  • Is it the result of a continues bladder infection due to a sexual disease? Sincethat face looks in pain and it doesn't look like a child at all.
  • Has: In petra exaltavit me, et nunc exaltavi caput meum super inimicos meos anything to do with it, and did the citizens piss on the invaders as in "piss off"?

Whatever it may be the reason there are all sorrs of reasons possible and as long as saga are told Manneke Pis (little man pee) lives on and pees in fountains.

Which reminds me of a phrase my father said if I felt thirsty:
Heb je dorst,
Ga naar Hansje Worst
Hij heeft een hondje
En die plast je zo in je mondje!

(Are you thirsty,
Go to Hansel Sausage
He has a little dog
And he'll pee in your mouth in no time!

For your information: There are sculptors of peeing dogs, girls and so on. If you are bored and have enough time and money, you can visit them one by one and please, check that the water is not poisoned. Ifyou don't like the urinating art you can visit Belgium for its chocolate.

Today, there is a replica of Manneke Pis on the fountain. Its new meaning is likely an idea of the EU government: throw your cash in the fountain, we'll piss on whatever you want, you better not piss us off!

An avant-garde artist I know named Alexander Tinney works in a very strange genre of fine art which is very difficult for me to understand in terms of the fact that I do not see it as art as such, but what I do not see for others apparently is a curiosity that attracts attention which made him famous in the circles of lovers of such art.

Essentially the artist projects a photograph of people onto a canvas copies it and makes some adjustments in the form of bruises under the eyes other injuries or simply distorts everything that can be distorted.

The author says that in this way he wants to show the sins of humanity but this borders on some vulgarity.

I would think that he simply does not have enough imagination to create something beautiful vulgarity and injuries are much easier to depict.

Today we are not talking about paintings, but about sculpture but I see and find some similarities in this.

You see it is quite difficult to attract people's attention with a sculpture of a boy who for example reads a book especially if this book is a reference book on higher mathematics lol but the scene we are witnessing attracts the gaze of a huge number of people who will admire the courage of the sculptor which borders on vulgarity.

So far no one has thought of putting a diaper on this boy and this would be an excellent modern performance :)

Wasn't projecting an image on a wall popular years ago? I lately thought about it again. I wonder if it's art and if he means it or just made it up and or if someone else said it and it simply became a habit to state what he likes to express. There's plenty of art born out of coincidence.

How about this...

I've been watching this today

The power of ugly art

Rereading my comments, I sometimes understand that they may sound like harsh criticism, but this is not entirely true. Criticism is aimed at imposing some opinion, and I only truthfully speak about my own opinion, I either understand something, or I do not understand it.
For example, I like different cheeses, young and aged, but for some time now I do not like Dorblu cheese, and I consider placing it on a piece of bread in the microwave to be a moveton comparable to a chemical attack :)
But if someone likes this cheese, I will not argue with it.
The same is true for art, my opinion is just my opinion :)
So, I believe that it is impossible to generalize art as art, there are artists who are extremely talented, but they are not businessmen, and there are businessmen who pass themselves off as artists, and this should also be respected, but these are completely different areas of life.
Yes, a banana on the wall is a harsh mockery of everything we called art, and as for the scribbles, there are several options for evaluating them.
They can be evaluated by a kindergarten teacher, a child's parents if a child drew it, an art expert for very rare cases, and a psychiatrist if an adult tries to pass off his inability to draw as high art :)
Thanks for the comment and interesting art reviews!
Blessings!

I don't find your comment harsh and critics are needed. How can one improve if everything is always good, fine, talented, great?
I remember how we went with the art teacher to a museum and she asked my opinion about a piece of art. I said I didn't like it and it wasn't beautiful her respond was: there's no need to find it beautiful. She felt very offended, I wonder why (did she make it and did I miss she was the artist). LOL Anyway, I frequently think back of this moment and I still do believe that art I see should move me and therefore be found by me beautiful and this indeed is not a banana glued to the wall, no soup poured on the floor or pile of trash. Art changed and it's more accessible for the common man but that doesn't mean that it's beauty shouldn't move a person. Can beauty be found in something that's ugly? It can if it has a certain charm, something that draws the attention in a special, positive way, but I still like skilled people, some with a certain talent, which to me aren't a few strokes called brushes. Somehow it feels as if real art is no longer appreciated and the question is why. A lack of skills?

A great weekend, and thanks for the chat.

Some things are hard to understand lol
I had a similar situation when my very demanding teacher at art school took us to an exhibition of paintings where his works were present.

He taught us to see perspective and show it in our works, but his paintings were just awful and there, in general, such a word as perspective was inapplicable lol.

In short, what I saw was not what I imagined as the artist's skill, some kind of fake of my drawings that I drew at the age of three sitting on the floor and spilling paint everywhere :)

But people made up the word impressionism, which allows everything that comes into your head to be called art :)

Sorry for the late reply, sometimes you put something off until tomorrow, and it is forgotten :)

The winners of the former contest are:

  1. @barski - 6 UVF

You shared more than what you saw, felt, own art and engaged. It was great to read your vision.

  1. @aneukpineung78 - 5 UVF

I am not sure if it was the statue, better don't visit the bathroom (do so before you leave home). Let's home it isn't as nasty as Manneke Pis and his dirty tricks.

I can use writing to make a plan. The potatoes should hold until next winter. The kitchen shouldn't be that creative space. Outside are the weeds and the grass. The cold should cease, stop biting into the flesh and allow for creation.

#wewrite #comment

Since you spend a lot of time outside... how about you remove weed and mow? Next to that you can bring in some art - like the red bull or whatever is on your way. I am looking forward to see the art that caught your attention.

I like it so much that it's hard to even put it into words! :)
Thank you so much for the prize!
I was so carried away by your contest that I completely forgot to ask what UVF is, I've never dealt with such an abbreviation before, please tell me.

UVF is similar to SBI - the more shares you jave the higher the upvote you receive on a post or comment.
When you receive this auto upvote depends on the shares x voting moment. Let's say it's an investment.

You can also have a look at @upvotefund.
There's nothing you need to do it all runs automatically.

A good Sunday!

Now everything is clear!
Thanks for the clarification!

I did it for fun, and it's now funner since I win something in it. Thanks.

That's the best way. Doing things for fun and if you win something, or get paid, it's a nice extra.
