Hello friends,
Hope you all are well and healthy. Alhamdulillah I am fine and healthy by the infinite mercy of Almighty Allah. Today I will discuss with you about historical and ancient Kantajew Temple.
Maharaja Pranath named the temple as Kantajew Mandir after the Kanta name of Sri Krishna. That is, Kant is the name of Krishna and Jyu is respect. Before the construction of the temple there was no human settlement here. Maharaja Pranath was not only an efficient ruler but also a reclusive devotee. So he chose such a secluded forested island to worship and worship Sri Krishna. Because in ancient times sages also practiced penance in such secluded and deep forests.
Location:
Dinajpur Kantajew Temple, a resplendent architectural masterpiece, is situated on the banks of river Dhapa in Sandurpur union of Kaharol upazila. The temple is located in Kantnagar village on the west bank of river Dhapa, about 20 km (12 mi) north of Dinajpur district town and 7 km east of Kaharol upazila.
Period of temple construction:
Maharaja Pranath started the construction of this temple in 1704 AD and after his death his favorite son Raja Ramnath completed the temple work in 1752 AD. It took about 48 years to build the temple.
The size of the temple:
The Kantajew temple is quadrangular with each wall measuring 52 feet. The stone altar is 3 feet above the ground and has a spread of 5 feet 6 inches. The four-cornered temple has a height of 70 feet from the plain courtyard to the highest peak
Why Kantajew Temple is famous:
The temple's terracotta plaques are more of a wakeful pilgrimage. The four walls of the temple depict the stories of the four classical eras through paintings. On the second sari from the bottom of the temple, images of the Mughal era can be seen around. There are images of Mughal era sailing, elephants, rhinoceroses, Mughal soldiers, kings, etc. Besides, camel riding, tiger hunting on horseback, grazing animals, animal fighting, There are glimpses of social life of helpless hunters, hawks, goals with cargo, boatmen, palanquin guards, hermits, palanquin journeys.
How to reach:
The temple is situated at Kantanagar, a quiet village on the banks of river Dhapa, 12 miles north of Dinajpur city and 6 miles east of Kaharol upazila headquarters, west of Dinajpur-Pancahgarh road. Can be reached by bus from Dinajpur.
