STYLE ME: Uniforms And Occasions"

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone, how are you all doing? I feel great to be here and today, I'm contesting on this topic by @njisoro titled 'uniforms and occasions. Though some people think uniforms are only meant for school, but this is not so. I will be enlightening us on uniforms and occasions, so take a seat and relax while I take you through.

UNIFORMS ARE MEANS OF IDENTIFICATION AND FOR BEAUTY

In Africa, especially in Nigeria where I come from, We don't joke with uniforms. Uniforms were known for schools in the past, but it is no more so. Uniforms are used as a means of identification and it is used in almost all occasions now. There are different uniforms for different occasions. Example currently in Nigeria, people wear uniforms for marriages, both traditional marriage and weddings, for burials, for parties, for anniversaries etc. It has come to a stage where in one occasion, you will see as much as five uniforms. The men may wear different, the women different, the youths different, etc. Uniforms are so unique that even armies wear it, the navy wear it, the police wear it.

So, it helps in identification too. Example, if the police see another person wearing their uniform, they will know he is one of them. Also, students are known for the school they attend by their uniforms. Uniforms help people have a sense of togetherness. Example, if a young person dues, people wear black to identify and mourn with the relatives of the deceased.

OCCASIONS AND VARIOUS UNIFORMS IN MY COUNTRY

We love wearing uniforms in my country and different uniforms are used for different occasions.

Traditional marriages and weddings : One of the things that makes marriages fine and fun are uniforms. When one wants to do a traditional marriage, an Ankara will be worn and the bride's family might wear different, the groom's family different, the bride's friends different and even the groom's friends different. That is why in one marriage, you might see as much as four to five uniforms. Then for the wedding, you will hear different colours of the day apart from the asoebi won by the bride's friend. You might hear onions red, maroon white gold, dusty pink, emerald green, etc.

For pupils and students as uniforms :
Another major occasion where uniforms are worn is in schools. Gone are the times when schools used one uniform. Currently, students wear at least 3 uniforms in a week. Uniforms help schools identify their pupils, depending on the uniform the school uses, it adds so much beauty to the dressing of the students or pupils.
Even the teachers now wear uniforms unlike in the past when they were asked to put on anything corporate. The paramilitary too are not left out, ranging from the police, navy, customs, to even the army. The nysc members are not left out.

MOURNING AND CELEBRATIONS:
Uniforms are also used for mourning and celebrations. Apart from the black that is always used when mourning a young person who has died, now people sew uniforms when there is a burial, especially when the person was old. You might see as much as 5 uniforms on one person's burial. This is to identify with the relatives of the deceased.

Uniforms are also work on anniversaries like 25th wedding anniversary, a birthday of ab elderly person, remembrance, end of the year parties, etc. It's to identify with whosoever is celebrating.

OCCASIONS I HAVE WORN UNIFORMS

I have worn uniforms at different occasions ranging from when I was in nursery/primary school, to secondary, to matriculation to graduation etc.

NYSC: After graduating from school, I did the compulsory nysc, and I had to wear the uniform throughout the one year in service to identify me as a corper.

Uniform for occasions: I have worn different uniforms for different occasions. I was on uniform while attending my boss mother's burial. This was compulsory for all staff.

As a teacher, we wear uniforms to work which I have also been wearing. It serves as a means of identification at my work place.

Finally, we had to wear uniform for our school anniversary which was made compulsory. We all had to wear it.

CONCLUSION

Wearing of uniforms for occasions has come to stay and it adds beauty to both the wearers and the occasion itself. Thank you.

Your giving a well description about uniform. Very true that back then it was known for school and but it serve as one of the means of identification.
