Decision-making in life is very important for every human because it defines the direction one takes after that time and has a lasting effect on one's way of living. How we make decisions and the factors that contribute to our decision-making are worth looking into and in this article today, I will share a few things about the heart and mind.

Heart or Mind? |
---|
Heart and mind are both important in making decisions but if I would choose one, I would go for the mind because that's where the true and practical resolution comes from without or little emotional attraction. Certain situations in life based on experience require using the mind to reach a conclusion and not hasten to make decisions as the heart may lead.

Let's take cryptocurrency trading for example, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a product of the heart and not of the mind which has led many traders to buy at the top and sell at the bottom, at losses. Practically, traders study an asset, know its behaviour and wait even if they have missed an early opportunity.
Last weekend's crash in the crypto ecosystem is another big example where practical decisions using the mind win over the heart. A user who buys BTC at $66,000 watched it move up to $72,000, he was in profit and expected more. Now the sudden crash happened and BTC dipped below $59,000, he allowed himself to be controlled by emotions and sold all at losses (neglecting other solid metrics) while BTC is back above his initial buy level (he's now more confused than ever).
The mind allows one to weigh different factors against one and the other in the process before concluding what resolution is best for an issue at hand.
Do we need both the Heart and Mind? |
---|
We can't eliminate the heart in decision-making and that makes both the heart and mind valid in making decisions, it's only left for the decision-maker to know which situations require the combination of both. The heart is a great indicator of making decisions under certain conditions.
Let's explore a real-life experience, I was at the state teaching hospital some weeks ago when an aged woman approached me narrating she came from a distant state and had a patient in the ward. In her narration, she's travelling back to get some things and needs some money for the journey.
I told the woman I didn't have any cash on me, and she resolved to take whatever assistance I wanted to render through a money transfer, I wasn't buoyant yet I'm willing to help and I told her to call the account number. I eventually transferred some money to her.

A few minutes later, a guy nearby asked me what the woman wanted and he hoped I had not given her any money. It was at that moment I realized that I had been scammed, the guy narrated his encounter with the same woman for the first and how she coincidentally met him in the town with a different story to make money illegally.
After the event, I have been approached by a few more people who looked sick and truly needed help within the teaching hospital but my experience forced me to say No or give out little, and I paid attention to their faces, hopefully, I meet them again. This is one of the types of situations that requires both the heart and mind, to give based on emotions to support humanity neglecting the lies that may be latent within.
Am I an emotional or a Practical person? |
---|
I'm more practical in real-life but I can't deny the fact that I'm both emotional and practical at the same time depending on the situation I find myself. I have made emotional decisions before, they hurt and at the same time taught me a lesson that makes me a more practical person.
With the level of hardship in town these days, you can't be only practical considering your previous experiences of fake beggars in town without missing out on helping needy people.
In essence, I'm more practical than emotional as I only allow my emotions to set in less delicate or less important situations that require making light decisions. If it's finances and career, I'm solidly practical.
Suggestions to Youths |
---|
To my fellow youths, I will advise you to be more practical in decision-making, and follow your mind based on your experience. Sometimes, we lose making decisions but the lessons from such occurrences shouldn't be allowed to waste away, let it guide your subsequent decisions.
Even if you fall, don't be dismayed or stay down forever. There is always a place to rise again, correct your wrongs and build all over. Building all over again is not for the weak or people controlled by the heart, it takes putting lessons learnt in previous fails together and preparing to win regardless.
Following one's heart shouldn't be left out but it should be limited to certain situations because your experience will rule over most times to get you back on the winning ways if you have fallen before. And remember to stay strong always.
Conclusion |
---|
In conclusion, the heart and mind guide human decisions in the journey of life, both important independently or combined depending on the situation. It's important to pick lessons from previous failures and apply them, this will make one a better being and ensure we make better decisions. It's a pleasure taking part in this and I hereby invite @ruthjoe, @kouba01 and @mile16 to participate in the contest.
We must take both parts into account when making a healthy decision, but we know that it must be done more with the mind since the heart tends to make mistakes in some moments of life situations.
A great example friend since this is a case where we must think with our heads about the way we are going to act on the decisions regarding the crypto world, it is not about completely eliminating the friendly heart but about reasoning properly.
Many of us use both things to be practical, but at the moment emotions come to our minds.

Exactly, we can't eliminate the heart in decision-making. We only need to critically estimate situations before we conclude.

You have said perfectly well in this post you have made. I as a person I always make sure I learn from my mistakes and most especially my failure which probably might be because of wrong decisions as this will actually enable me to make write decisions next time and at the end of the day make me a better person in life. Decision making is really key and we must really learn how to make decisions.
We are a product of our decisions and when taking decisions, there are a whole lot of things we should pay attention to and one of it is actually the pros and cons of every decision making we are making. There are some wrong decisions I have made in my life that I have actually regret in life but well that is actually how it is and how it is bound to happen. When it comes to decision making, we make use of our mind I guess.
I strongly believe so much emphasis has been put on the heart that the interpretation of the heart has not been gotten. I strongly believe when making decisions, we should actually make use of the mind because our mind is actually the power house and in our heart lies what I say a lot of things that determines our end products as human beings. Thank you so much for dropping this quality publications because I was really able to learn a lot from this.

Doing what your mind is telling you is more important than doing what other people are telling you. Our mind and heart are the power up means of making decisions which whatever we do or intend to do, we have to think twice before making decisions.
The case if the user who refused to sell his BTC is similar to what I experienced in the crypto market last week. One thing about the crypto market that we shouldn't do is greed and ambitious for over profits.
