Chandrayaan 3

The Chandrayaan -1 mission was launched by India on 22 October, 2008. The spacecraft reached the moon and something that it discovered is Water on Moon. For the first time Chandrayaan 1 fetch the information that there is water on the moon.

The world has now seen "India's Chandrayaan-3 mission finally touched down on the Moon's largely unexplored South Pole.

Chandrayaan-3 of India created history as ‘Vikram’ module successfully landed on the Moon’s South Pole on 23 August, 2023.

Missions were sent regularly by USA and Russia to the Moon. Besides this China, Japan and Europe planned many lunar missions.

Moon missions that are sent to Moon can be of 5-6 types.

Human started sending missions to Moon in 1950s . And since then, as technology has improved, the complications of these missions have also increased.

The first and the simplest mission is fly-by-mission. In this the spacecraft is sent to the space which passes by the Moon, it doesn't orbit around the Moon, but merely flies by the Moon and leaves. In January, 1959 the first successful fly-by-mission was launched by Soviet Union when their spacecraft Luna-1 passed by the Moon. Another spacecraft Pioneer -4 was a successful fly-by-mission launched by USA in March 1959 . The aim was to study the Moon from a distance. In October,1959, when Soviet Union launched Luna-3, we could able to see a close-up photo of the Moon for the first time.

The next category mission is the Orbiter Mission . In this the spacecraft get close to the moon and orbit around the Moon in a lunar orbit. And from there they study Moon surface and atmosphere. Till date, 40 spacecrafts Orbiter Mission have been conducted. And this is still the common type of Moon mission. The first successful Orbiter Mission was once again conducted by Soviet Union, Luna 10, in the year 1966,

Other mile stone achievement was First crewed Orbiter mission Apollo 8 to the Moon by Nasa on 21 December 1964.

First crewed landing on Moon, Orbiter mission Apollo 11 Lunar Module to the Moon by Nasa on 16 July 1969.

There were several missions by mainly five countries other than India namely Japan, South Korea, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States in between Chandrayaan 1 and Chandrayaan 3.
