My Friend's Baby Shower Ceremony

in hive-120823 •  2 years ago

On Sunday morning I had to attend my friend's baby shower. In the 7 months of pregnancy as per our traditions we have a ceremony called as Aghani. This ceremony is done only on a Thursday or a Sunday, now what's the logic behind this I do not know. In the ceremony, the to-be mother receives a new pair of clothes and some jewelry. The ceremony is performed by 5 or 7 females, where both the mother and the mother-in-law turn by turn will make the pregnant woman sits on a chair and then place a coconut, wheat seeds, raw rice and other seeds, bananas, pomegranate and a cone shaped sweet in her saree. There is a elaborate ceremony that is done by both the mother and the mother-in-law. It is a ceremony to welcome the baby and through this ceremony give blessings of abundance to the unborn baby in the womb.

She is a very close friend of mine, so I was one of the 7 females to do the ceremony. She too lives in Muscat, but her family is here in Mumbai, so she travelled to Mumbai specially for this ceremony to be done by her family. Normally people make it a grand affair and invite family and friends to be a part of the event. The ceremony is performed by 7 ladies but then a lot of other family and friends are invited. My friend had booked a external venue for the ceremony.

It's a very traditional affair, so good to wear a saree for the occasion.

After the ceremony, they revealed the baby's gender to everyone. And it's a boy.

For a Sunday morning, the venue was perfect. It was at one of the Sea facing club, which is called as Radio club.

Some outside views.
That's the iconic Gateway of India

After the ceremony, there was a sumptuous buffet lunch and after the lunch I was in total food coma..hehehe.
Since the time I have landed in the city, it's just been running around. Finally, today I get some peaceful time at home. Meeting up with family and friends is so delightful.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

Congratulations to your friend on her baby boy! It's always heartwarming to hear about cultural traditions and ceremonies, and it sounds like the Aghani ceremony was a beautiful way to bless the unborn baby and welcome him into the world. The venue you chose for the ceremony looks stunning with the sea-facing view and the iconic Gateway of India in the background. The sumptuous buffet lunch must have been a great way to celebrate the occasion with family and friends. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and I wish your friend and her family all the best!

Thank you for your good wishes. Occasions like these bring us together and we understand the importance of our community and culture

Nicely presented ma'am. I don't know much about your tradition. But after reading your post I understand that maybe this festival is a lot of fun.

However, in our tradition, pregnant women perform the Ekdaran ceremony called Satsha in seven months. In this ceremony, apart from the pregnant woman's mother and mother-in-law, many other women prepare and feed her favorite food and pray with gold ornaments.

Your friend's function was organized in a great place. I have never seen so many boats at once. You really seem to have had a great time at your friend's function.

Anyway, I pray for your girlfriend that your girlfriend and her baby are doing well.

Thank you for your good wishes. What I have seen is almost every culture has more or less the same traditions with a little bit of differences.

I think the tradition of blessing the 7th month of pregnancy is the same as in my area, in Aceh.

I think the cultural influences of the past give a cultural mix that is almost similar between Indian culture and ours.

True, Our regions are all connected and so are our traditions in many ways

absolutly .

This is the most beautiful moment of life. In which the coming boy or girl can be anyone. Many congratulations to you.

Yes, some very previous moments of life

How nice that you let us know how this thing is organized in your country

Thank you @hotspotitaly
