I resumed work at the hospital after a very hectic and stressful previous week and a relaxing weekend. I got up really early, precisely by 5am thanks to my alarm. I freshened up, ate my breakfast which was prepared by my mum, and then I headed out. The roads were busy. Kids were going to school, cars were moving everywhere, people were going to work. It seemed like everyone came out this morning. I boarded a taxi and headed to the hospital
I was excited for the week. I was switching to a different unit in my department, which is the physiotherapy department. Last week, I was in the orthopedic units. There were so many patients who all needed quality care. I had to work my socks off. It's the most stressful unit I've ever been to so far. This week, I resumed at the geriatrics unit.
We saw elderly patients (people aged 65 years and above).
This unit majorly treated elderly people that came down with several conditions like osteoarthritis, stroke, parkinson's disease, whether it's neurological or musculoskeletal.
I got to my new unit and came in contact with my colleagues. We exchanged pleasantries and I was welcomed by them. I was given an excellent insight into the protocols observed there, how things operate and what I should or shouldn't do
We started seeing patients from the morning until 2pm. Most of the patients were happy after being treated because the pain they came in with was gone by the time we were done treating. They really appreciated us. It was a really memorable day for me for several reasons. Patients who were in terrible conditions got better. These conditions have reduced their quality of life. But they regained that. The patients showed their gratitude to us. I also had the best team to work with. I learnt a lot from them in just one day. They put me through every process they took. We also helped each other with making sure the work went on very smoothly. The atmosphere was lively and friendly.
I had a great experience treating elderly patients as it was my first time.
When we finished work for the day, I made may way home. I was exhausted and hungry. The major thing thing in my heat at that point was to eat, freshen up and sleep.
I got stuck in a traffic jam while on my way home in a taxi. I spent extra 30 minutes on the road and it was frustrating.
I eventually got home, ate and rested for the day. I watched movies, read some books and slept for the night.
I am inviting @goodybest, @lhorghic and @josepha
You really have a wonderful experience, are you on IT, and which of the University teaching hospitals? Working in the physiotherapy and orthopaedic department might be interesting! I like your diary, but next time you can include your selfie in the office and even while working it will make it more interesting and real. Success!
