Introduction |

Determination is more like a belief that stirs you up or pushes you forward, giving you the confidence that you can achieve your set objectives. On the other hand, “Dedication” is more like the sacrifice and consistent effort one puts into achieving success.
Because these two words are closely linked, they are often used interchangeably in the race for success. I will be talking more about these two words under several subheadings. But let me first of all invite @dar22, @caramella, and @effyb for this contest.
Do you believe dedication depends on determination? How? |
---|
Let’s look at these words like this:
If determination is the fire, then dedication is the fuel that keeps the fire burning.
If you stop fueling the fire, it will quench. So, what I’m trying to say, in essence, is that without determination, there's no clear vision, and dedication can phase out. Without dedication, even the strongest determination can be overcome by distractions and challenges in achieving success.
When we become determined, a clear vision sets in. This keeps us dedicated to achieving our goals, no matter the challenges and distractions. Over a long period, achieving a particular objective can become very boring and less interesting. Only determination can help keep dedication alive, ensuring continuous effort towards achieving that objective.
How can we increase our dedication to definite determination? Describe. |
---|
When we set ambiguous goals, we find it hard to achieve them and we lose motivation. But when we set clear goals and these goals are broken down into smaller bits, we become more determined and dedicated to achieving those set goals. We should also make sure that those goals, broken down into small chunks, have a scheduled time to achieve them because a structured approach can help maintain focus and determination.
Each little goal that is achieved should be celebrated to boost our morale and sustain our dedication. We should also bear in mind that there is never a smooth road to achieving these goals. We’ll definitely encounter challenges and obstructions. It’s important we bounce back when we encounter these things and see them as opportunities to reinforce our determination and dedication.
You can share your challenging stories (both in your personal and professional life) to justify the term. |

In my personal life, I’ll talk about my secondary school inter-house sports. I was representing the yellow house. During our usual long-distance race practice, our physical and health education teacher would take us to a big field to practice the 400m distance race alongside other houses, and I was always coming in first position.
It was time for the main event and our secondary school took us to a standard stadium, where we had to run on an original race track. I saw the guys I was to contest with, believing I had won against them before on the field, and thinking it would be a piece of cake here. Little did I know that the distance was far greater than I expected.
When the race started, I increased my pace and I was taking the lead as usual. By the third lap, I was so exhausted and I was literally behind; I had run out of gas. I just couldn’t come in last place after all the dedication I had put in and the shame of facing my housemaster for allowing people I used to beat during practice to win on the main day. I was determined to do all it took and once again, I increased my pace in the last lap.
After I’d beaten the other two houses to become second, I literally had to dive on the floor into the finish line, hoping to take first place, not minding if I got bruised up, but unfortunately, it didn’t work. I still came out second.
