I'm happy to participate in this contest organized by this fantastic community because I believe that environmental issues are very important worldwide, and surely water is a very important and precious resource that should not be wasted. Above all, this competition provides the opportunity to understand how this resource is managed in various parts of the world. I must say that for some time now, I have been following indefinite travelers on YouTube and I am realizing how fortunate I am in Italy to always have access to clean drinking water at home.

What is the function of water in life?

I want to immediately address some points that were highlighted in the contest to get into the topic, and I must say that the function of water in life is very important. Just a few kilometers away from where I live, there was a major pollution caused by some industries in the groundwater, and this resulted in several people unknowingly drinking contaminated water, which developed various illnesses and tumors in them. Fortunately, this issue was discovered and measures were taken immediately by installing filters. This is the downside of living in a highly industrialized country that some consider modern, but in reality, it leads to a lot of pollution. Water is a very important thing because 98% of our body is made up of water, so it needs to be of good quality.

How do we describe the value of a drop of water?

It's difficult to give a value to a drop of water, but in my opinion we should avoid waste not only in our homes and daily lives but also as in the case in Italy of those who bring water into homes or businesses. Unfortunately, in Italy many aqueduct networks are outdated and maybe there have been few investments made over time to make them more modern, so in some parts of Italy many drops of water are wasted due to the old distribution network, which especially in the winter often breaks down. Then we also need to be careful inside our homes, in fact, I always try to recover some of the water to use for flushing the toilet, because the absurd thing from my point of view is that potable water is used for flushing the toilet.

Returning to the previous discussion, I am fortunate that there hasn't been contamination of these chemicals in my area and theoretically, the water should be clean. However, since I don't fully trust it, I buy drinking water from the supermarket and try to purchase a product that comes from the mountains about twenty kilometers away from my house, precisely because I want to take a product that is fresh enough and hasn't been bottled for a long time. Unfortunately, plastic bottles can contain microplastic particles, which is not healthy.

In conclusion, I can say that water is an important asset, which in many cases, as in Italy, is taken for granted because it has always arrived clean and drinkable from our taps. However, we need to protect the environment to make this precious asset valuable, especially during periods of drought like a few months ago when Italy was partly affected. Another thing that I see in other countries of the world that makes me think a lot is the fact that in many countries, people have to go to specialized stores to buy water for their homes, which makes me reflect on the fact that governments around the world should first worry about bringing such an important asset into people's homes, not only for hygiene reasons but also to give them the possibility to drink clean water without spending too much money.
