Have you heard of a subject called FURTHER MATHEMATICS . It is a subject that makes students shiver and sweat anytime mentioned. That is a subject taken in West Africa today.

Date: Friday, 12th May, 2023.

Venue : Bright Stars School, Nigeria.
Time: Between the hours of 9am -12pm (Theory)and 3:00pm - 4:30pm

Activity: WAEC Examination (This examination is often conducted yearly with time table drawn for every subject taught in the West Africa).

Mode of Examination: Here students are kept in a hall with only recognized invigilators and an external invigilator from Waec. Also student are only meant to come in for the examination with pen, pencil and a mathematical set / calculator provided only by Waec.

Hours spent today = 4hours,30 minutes.

WAEC

This means West African Examinations Council (WAEC). It is an examination board established by law to determine and conduct the examinations for all subjects required in the public interest in the English-speaking West African countries, to conduct the examinations and to award certificates comparable to those of equivalent examining authorities in the world and Nigeria is one of the countries in West Africa.

FURTHER MATHEMATICS AS A SUBJECT

It is an A-Level Mathematics.
This subject is assigned to broaden and deepen the mathematical knowledge and skills developed in students. It aims to stretch a students reasoning capabilities and challenge those high-achieving students who have good mathematics skills and enjoy the subject. The topics are more complicated, sophisticated and advanced than those in Mathematics.
So with this, very few students opt for the subject in an external Examinations while others just want to learn, know and not write exams in the subject.

Today, officially was for WAEC FURTHER MATHEMATICS all over west Africa. And in my school, we had just 12 high achieving students that were ready to write the exams. The environment was conducive and at 4:30pm Nigerian time,the examination ended with mixed feelings. Some happy while a few uncertain though confident it will go well.
