# Value through SERVICE #

All through the states in Nigeria for the past three weeks, it has been talks about elections. First was presidential/senate and house of representatives. Then on Saturday, it was finally the much awaiting governorship. ## Service ## Having applied to be a Polling officer,I was posted to Essien Udim local government area in Akwa Ibom state. On Friday,I left for Inec office since it far from the state capital where I stay. We had to stay overnight awaiting materials. Then in the morning the materials were loaded into the bus and we were taken to our respective RAC centres from there to our respective units.

The Experience

At the unit,we unpacked and checked for materials given, then accreditation began. People were either accredited using their last names or last 6 digits of the voters card. Then either thumbprint or face recognition was used for voters validation through the BVAS.

From there a voter goes to the meet the assistant polling unit officer to check his or her name on the register. From there to get the ballot papers or voting. And lastly cast their votes.

That was the whole process and it took place between 8am - 2:30pm.
After the voting process, counting of votes was done publicly and then results officially announced. Then the results was uploaded.

From there we went back and to return the result. At Inec office, we were immediately given $4 equivalent for our transportation and we will also be paid for the service. So I ended up discharging my civic duty and also got paid for doing that.
