Black Nightshade or latin name Solanum nigrum is easy to be found here in my village. We use their leaves for vegetable. We eat them by cooking them. I used to eat their leaves as vegetable but I never eaten their fruits.

In Gayo language, Black Nightshade is rukut and Javanese language is ranti. This plant has been widely use as food and herbal medicine since ancient time.

Solanum nigrum has been recorded from deposits of the Paleolithic and Mesolithic era of ancient Britain and it is suggested by the botanist and ecologist Edward Salisbury that it was part of the native flora there before Neolithic agriculture emerged.

I took those photos this morning as the plant is just behind my house. I used a smartphone to capture the fruits. Most fruits are ripe and some of them are still green.
