Some days ago, we have been having issues of theft stories within the neighborhood. Considering the poor power supply around the neighborhood and the incessant noise from people’s generator set we decided to make things a bit easier for our security team in the estates by going to get them a “walkie talkie”.

As a novice, I have always known “walkie talkie” as a short distance phone used among security personnel but what I found out when I went to the market about this gadget will blow your mind.

I embarked on my journey as usual to the shopping malls, gadget houses, computer villages, looking for the cheapest walkie talkie as possible without having any single idea that they are of different types until I stumbled upon a shop in garrison port harcourt. I asked for his price, he told me that walkie talkie are of different types and I ask him, he should please explain to me what he meant…

He dragged a chair for me to sit down and asked me “if I’m in for a long conversation”, like a novice, I replied “yes sir”.

He asked me what’s my challenge and I told him of what I’m passing through in the neighborhood and the increase in crime rate, that I need a walkie talkie for my boys.

That is when he mentioned “MOTOROLA LONG RANGE WALKIE TALKIE”.. I was forced to ask him the price, the price he called made me stand up from my sit to start leaving, it was too expensive. He said I should sit down, let him explain something to me. I sat down.

• Durable and portable

He said that Motorola long range walkie talkie are so durable and because of their robust quality, it can stand harsh conditions like rain, sun, dust and it won’t get spoilt. He added that it is very light and portable to carry anywhere you like.

• Range and coverage

I now pointed out to him, what is the purpose of this long antenna in walkie talkie phones.

It can last for 3 days without charging but takes about 18 to 24 months if handled well without spoiling.

I went further to explain that I’ve seen some radios that are not clear and is very hard to communicate with one another because of the crazy noise at the background.

The security in this radio is encrypted and it helps protect sensitive communications from unauthorized access.

From all this I was so convinced that whatever penny I spent, it was worth it. Till today, we still use the radio after several years in the office and my honest review about this product is that:

• The product battery do have a long life span. It has never for a day given us any issue after a year!
• It is also durable because this radio have fallen off my hands couple of times to the ground and nothing has been affected. Everything is still functioning perfectly.
• The hallmark of this device is the sound quality. The stuff is so loud that even a deaf man will hear clearly. At least, it has a volume control, to either increase or reduce the volume.
• When it comes to the distance it covers, it cover as far as 28.7km from ada George to airport
• It is also easy to use. All you have to do is just hold the side button and speak.. when you are done talking , you remove your hand from the side button to get your reply from the other or control room.

The shortcomings of this device:

So far, I’ll say from experience, the shortcomings is the signals. The reason is because there are times I would have to walk around the room or come outside the gate to get a call to pass through because of poor signal. Whenever I manage to get a clear signal, I dare not move from that specific location, else I’ll loose the signal.

At first, it was the distance that was causing the bad signal because were the control room is very far but then I realized that there are other stations close to me, who don’t experience same thing I’m experiencing
