CAMPUS NEWS - OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY (OAU) SHUTS DOWN UNIVERSITY, ASKS STUDENTS TO VACATE HALL OF RESIDENCE | 20% Payout Campusconnectng

A 24-year old female Part 4 student of the Department of Foreign Languages, Miss Adesina Omowumi Aishat, On Tuesday, September 28, 2021 reported to the Health Centre with signs and symptoms of a severe infection. She was asked to report back as an out-patient after she was promptly treated with some drugs prescribed to her by the doctor. In the morning of Thursday September 30, 2021, She reported back to the Health Centre. She died on Thursday 30th, after she was referred to the seventh Day Adventist Hospital for further management even upon missing her examination.

The Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, sympathizes with parents, friends, colleagues and the whole Students of the school for the untimely death of Miss Adesina. He stated this in a press release. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen!

The Management at the same time, condemns the continuous and uncontrolled protests by the students culminating in unbridled brigandage, blocking the Ife/Ibadan and Ife/Ede highways and other Connecting roads that could be used as alternative routes, and engaging in other acts that can hurt their health and the safety of the generality of the people.

The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, have accordingly closed down the School until further notice in order to call the students to order and allow normal situation to return to the campus and it's vicinities having exhausted all the necessary avenues to call the students to order. This is to put a stop to further breakdown of law and order.

Following this, all students are thereby directed to vacate their halls of residence and the Campus environs latest by 12:00pm on Saturday, October 2, 2021.

On the other hand, the swearing-in of the newly elected Students’ Union officials has been put on hold till further notice, pending a review of the situation.

The University management has put in place the machinery to separate the circumstances surrounding the immediate and remote cause(s) of the crisis in the meantime.
