look at the so called freedom fighter, living large, dining and whining with the oppressors, When you hear Aluta Continues, it means suffering continues so that those who claim to represent us can remain relevant, enjoy the prestige, receive good treatment on top people's suffering. When will the suffering end must we keep screaming Aluta Continues- Fela Kuti

It is no longer news that a huge scandal has rocked the so called Student Union Government of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus. In this current saga the President of both campuses in conjunction with the Senate President allegedly connived to misappropriate the sum of Sixty-Five million naira which they intended to do so by undertaking frivolous projects. The news is already making rounds on Social media platforms and blogs. The President's and the Senate President stated that these funds will be used to build 150 seat outs for students. This move was blocked by the Senate House after students protested against such wasteful spending.

The Senate President Comrade Ifeanyi Nnamani was indicted in the embezzlement of a whopping sum of Three million naira, for disregarding due process and violating the SUG constitution. He has currently been impeached and would no longer serve as the Senate President.

We have seen a lot of reactions from students and members of the senate alike. Some condemning this infuriating and rotten deeds of the SUG Government while supporters of the Senate President have tagged it a false allegation to taint the Senate President.

We have also seen elements of damage control by the Senate President to quell the tension and clear the air. The Senate President has publicly invited Comrade Ani Stephen (SUG President, UNN) and Comrade Ugwuja Obinna(SUG, President UNEC) to debate on the issue at Lion FM 91.1.

In an earlier statement released by Comrade Ifeanyi Nnamani he claimed not to be involved in the misappropriation of Sixty-Five million naira and also that he advised against such that it was out of touch with the students needs.

However Senator Tahkim Etta countered this by releasing pictures of the said documents in which the Signature of the Senate President authorising such demand.

There have been several complaints of misappropriation of funds and abuse of power against the Senate President prior to this whole saga. It was Senator Tahkim Etta who brought the issue before the SUG High Court and also this led to further investigations. More events are unfolding as more and more students lose their trust in the Student Union Government. This brings again the question Is the Student Union Government relevant? Should the Union Government be heavily regulated by the school?

An Igbo adage says mgbe nne ewu na-ata afifia nwa na-ene ya anya onu

This is a clear representation of how the younger generation is mirroring the corrupt practice of the older generation. It is a shame that a platform meant to raise people of integrity has become a breeding ground for corrupt individuals who are out of touch with the needs of people. This is a black day for every Nigerian youth. Is this how we are going to lead the future? The ever growing mistrust for the Student Union Government is at an all time high and this corruption in the student union body has been going on for years. The Student Union Government of Enugu was scrapped due to embezzlement of funds.

This feeds political apathy and also has adverse effects even beyond school premises. This goes a long way to show us how deep corruption has eaten deep into the fabrics of our society, people taking up offices not to serve but to steal. After all Aluta Continues.

Credibility in the mud yo!

Iono why people sometimes leave like there won't be consequences for their actions.

Na wetin we dey see the so called futures tomorrow

I happen to be a student of UNN, I heard of this and felt an epitome of truth in it but didn't take it seriously but now that I have read this, I believe serious action should be taken. We can't have thieves in SUG offices. We need more important news like this, keep it up

This is a really disheartening situation if found to be true, situations in our universities are already bad and the SUG is supposed to provide support to the students. Instead we hear these cases of embezzlement and corruption from the younger generation which we've been trying to erase from our older generation

Well said hazmat

Thank for the information because i have longing to get the full gist untill i came across your article.

This your update mad 😣

This is really bad @arinzegid12, now we don't know when someone actually gets involve in a fraudulent activities, one thing I believe is that in every rumour their is an atom of truth. To answer your question, the SUG is relevant because it was formed to be a link connecting the students and the school but nowadays it does not carry out its reasons for formation.
