Yes every strike will always come to an end but the question is when will it come to an end? Taking notice of the current situation Nigeria in terms of debt both internationally and locally the government seems to be at the brink of bankruptcy and thus cannot afford to settle all the aggrieved parties. The talks between ASUU and the Federal has stalled and as it stands we are not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel, lets say we are in a state of limbo.

If it is one thing I am certain about, is that this current government is totally out of touch with the need of its people. Wasteful and extravagant spending of borrowed money is what has brought us to this point. The government spends more than what it makes, hence our reserves are in shambles.

Lecturers and student(Public Schools)alike are feeling the heat, no employee will work without a pay check, these lecturers are people with family, they are the educators of the nation and like they say education is the key but as it stands the government has failed to pay it's workers now the customers (Students) are paying the price. I don't blame ASUU, because our education system is a disaster. If we don't get it right now it will be terrible. Infact it is terrible because we never got it right in previous administrations.

Now students have to seek other alternatives because an idle mind is a devil's workshop, this prolonged strike will buttress the point of education nah scam fc . The strike will encourage brain drain in public universities and the country at large, because it will force students to foster their education else where and many wouldn't want to come back. Students may start engaging in cyber crime thus losing total focus in their studies.

What the federal government and the union can do to end this strike is for the government to uphold its side of the deal, revive our universities for good because they are poorly funded and it is telling on the quality of education we are receiving
#campusconnectengagement

It's just sad how much pain and disappointment we have had to go through. Total disruption of individual student timelines, students end up spending more time in the univeristy than they are supposed to.

I really hope things changes as soon as possible and we get back to our classes and study, its our future wr are talking about here.

and as it stands we are not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel

Dear friend I don't think we are even anywhere near the end of the tunnel as we have not heard the federal government giving any positive response to ASUU

#campusconnectengagement

So many people have already given up on education cause of the reoccurring strikes. It's really sad but man has no option but to adapt.

#campusconnectengagement

True we meuve

Just a week before the strike began in January, the students of the department did their final year project defence which was the last academic criteria a student have to meet before graduation. We all rejoiced that we only have the graduating list left to be released. It was soon followed by the announcement of the strike. It's almost two months now and we're still here. A four years course has turned to five because of this discontinued breaks in study. The strike is affecting the student more than the two parties involved. The ASUU body claimed that they are doing it for the future of university education but the government does not seems to believe that education is key as they refused to fulfil their long time promises.

I think the strike will end next month. I don't know, just my thought. Maybe for some political reasons.

To put end to this buhaha, i think the government and ASUU should approach the matter rationally and talk it. All conditions should be met and all promised fulfilled to avoid future cases. It will improve the educational system on the long run.
#campusconnectengagement

I don't think this strike is ending next month, if it does consider it a miracle

It seems saying next month is selfish but i want to graduate soon. Abeg!

Everybody wants to graduate but this buhari administration doesn't care, omo 2023 nah election that is their focus. A failed system

Nothing serious is really going on.

i think the strike will end next month. I don't know, just my thought. Maybe for some political reasons.

Viewing from this.perspective, ill say yes yes, it may end with the odds of it ending next month being at about 60%. Tbh, these our leaders are people who are engulfed with their own selfish desires. When it's time for an election, that's when you see them trying to behave as if they care bout the people, but they dont.. once they win the contest, everyrhing will change just like our current president Bubu that promised us change.

I believe ASUU is doing this for the future of universities. They're trying to cut the bud in the nip, and while it may not seem beneficial to us currently, the situation would become critical if not tackled now.

I am currently enrolled as a medical student at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus. The fact is, there is both encouraging and truly horrifying news. Fortunately, I'm a finalist, and I'm finished with all of my clinical placements after a six-year program that will soon be extended to eight years at my university. Every posting was accompanied by a long-term preparation that lasted more than seven years, rather than the six years that should have been accompanied by a licensed staff and office, but we burned through those years to complete every posting just to be hit with a strike...

The unfortunate news about strike is that our academic activities have been postponed till further notice due to the ongoing school strike. At the point when the news came few days ago , a significant number of my mates cried. We had trusted that they would think about our situation and lead the tests in different emergency clinics yet they had made what we named " the mean decision". A large portion of us have become indifferent with regards to numerous things, the enthusiasm that we once had has blurred into unimportance.

They have gashed our feelings. A few of us are so confounded at this point. Our rents are terminating, our folks are concerned and prepare to have your mind blown. Nobody has come to address us. Everyone grumbles of the falling moral and information standard of specialists yet take a gander at the manner in which we are prepared; a preparation that makes us free our psyches. Assuming that we become odd sort of specialists, who have lost all sympathy and feelings, who will fault us? Lord have mercy on us..It's truly wretched when I think about it, that this is occurring right now. This is the very University that went on a multi month strike from 2019 dow to the tight craw of corona which leads to sitting at home for many months.

That is beside the few months strike it happened years ago.. That is simply counting the new ones gracious. How would you anticipate that the energy of the understudies should continue as before.

The set going to 400 level can't begin clinicals in light of the fact that there is no space in clinics, so they need to sit tight for the last year folks to leave prior to beginning. They've been at home for months now.
I wonder when the training area in Nigeria will move along with other country education system. I hope something is done with regards to it

What the federal government and the union should do is for both party to keep to their word But until that happens lets wait on the lord for his mercy... #campusconnectengagement

Our rents are terminating

This is currently one of the most distressing and pressing challenges I have right now. Prior to the whole strike saga, our landlord had increased our rent and I was willing to retain my accommodation in the building until I can't even stay in a room I paid for.

Most of my lodge mates have active rent rents which will expire in a few months' time, I am not sure the landlord will say anything or discount the amount they pay on their next rent.

It's just so sad.

#campusconnectengagement

You took the words right out of my mouth. My rent is expiring on November. I would have to pay another one again and it definitely isn't cheap

May Lord have mercy.....

Senior comrades are now washing plates at home🤣🤣🤣

The strike that has been upon federal schools in Nigeria is something the government needs to look into. However, due to the fact that the educational background of Nigerian youths is not cherished by the government, youths tend to become insightful individuals in the country.

Viewing from my perspective, this strike is not going tk be called of anytime soon because the people governing us are basically not interested in schools, but are interested in how to win the upcoming elections afterwhich they partake in the embezzlement of public funds. Frankly speaking, the government called Nigerian youths "lazy" some months back, but to be honest, our youths ain't lazy. We strive hard become better people in life but the government make our dreams seems irrelevant to us.

Another reason why i said this strike will not bw called off anytime soon ks because of the amountnof money in which the government are owing lecturers. Which government owes their lecturers for more than 7months? Yep you guessed right, Nigerian government. I wouldn't say it's greed, but with the way teachers in general (both for primart and secondary schools) are owed, they don't have any motivation to cime to the lecture hall and lecture.

Due to the fact that lecturers are not being payed their salary, lecturers tend to collect bribe from students in other to make them pass. Nowadays, we submit assignments with money in other to get your script marked.

From my view, the government should release the fees of the lecturers so that things will flow normal once again. Basically, the lecturers don't have financial motivation, hence, they tend to make corruption the top order of the day. If the government releases their salaries to them, i bet you, things in campus will be much better. The union on the other hand should equally play their role in disturbing the government sonthat these issues will be rectified.

I see the same thing my comrade, this might even get extended from the intended 14th of May, we just hope for a better government in 2023.
#campusconnectengagement

Tbh my man. At this point, everyone knows it's not the lecturers faults anymore

I believe this strike would possibly last till next year. There has been no recent developments and there seems to be no interest by FG in the demands of ASUU currently.

#campusconnectengagement

It's difficult for anyone to work optimally when he/she is being owed for that long. No one should be placed under such circumstances.

I figured the union are trying to get their money back from the current government before they leave their office for the next ones. If this isn't done, the new administration would refuse to pay for costs that they didn't incur. Nonetheless I believe the money the union is demanding is wayy above what the government are willing to do and because of this, the issue would be kept pending hence the strike would keep getting longer.

Students keep getting more and more indifferent about schooling and education as some who are to stay 4 years in the university end up staying 6 years and more. Some have dropped out to look for greener pastures. Since the students aren't busy, they fall victims to politicians who use them as thugs to disrupt the peace in the country. Many students who don't have anything better to do at home end up stealing and committing all sorts of acts to fill their pockets. These are just one of the few effects of the strike on Nigerian students.

I hope the union and the government come to equal terms and settle this as soon as possible. They are delaying the leaders of tomorrow.

#campusconnectengagement

But we are talking about a government that out of the goodness of their heart gave 1million dollars to Afghanistan haba nah

#campusconnectengagement

Bro that's just crazy, when i heard that I was like WTF. Why give Afghanistan 1miilion dollars when students are still at home because of unpaid salaries for lectures, it's just pure stupidity.

They seem to not care about education and we are all suffering because of it.

#campusconnectengagement

Election that's where the focus is but if anybody tells me that really really the taliban government actually received that money, I have an airport to sell. Our education system is in shambles and later they will say our competition is outside. How can we compete when we have a very poor academic system
#campusconnectengagement

What an arrant madness in the highest order, that is. May God almighty put sense in the brain of these our national leaders and their cabals.

The government have money. If they want to release it, they will.

#campusconnectengagement

I figured the union are trying to get their money back from the current government before they leave their office for the next ones.

No one will want to pay for a debt they know nothing about especially when they only have their selfish interest in heart.

#campusconnectengagement

The issue has never been the availability of funds. The issue has been the mindset and priority of our educational sector by our leaders.
These lectures may seem outrageous but, being frank, they are in dire need for an update.

Let us not just look at the downside of us staying home because of the strike, let us engage in productive things that will help us maximize times like this.

#campusconnectengagement

if I didn't know about steemit I for don kpekelemes on top this strike

😹
Truth he told, this strike is really getting the best side of student. A student will end up spending 7nyears foe something that is worth just 5years.

  ·  3 years ago (edited)

Our educational system is wack and there hasn't been any improvement for ages.

#campusconnectengagement

It's every man for himself in this "zoo". The leaders don't care because they can comfortably handle their children's education by enrolling them to private institutions, while the masses are left with the rot of corruption.

#campusconnectengagement

Thanks to #campusconnect for this beautiful and educational post as we approach our anniversary.

In respect to the question, I believe it will come to an end but right now what we don't know is when via the fact that it seems the public educational system seems to be a joke in the country called Nigeria as a student studying a five years course I have experienced two strikes in two years and all I hear is 'its for the good of the tertiary institution'. Education has become a political strategy in our nation and a political joke. It's really very painful.

For the second question I believe the best thing for the government to do is privatization of all public schools since they can't control the union ASUU. With private owners things will be focused on how to make each university get back to standard so that business doesn't run into loss.
My opinion though
#campusconnectengagement

For the second question I believe the best thing for the government to do is privatization

If schools are privatalized, then expect tuition fees to be doubled, accommodation fee will as well skyrocket, therefore I don't think privatalisation of schools is the best step to take.

#campusconnectengagement

Atleast it's better than this suffering na
#campusconnectengagement

Thanks @campusconnect for this opportunity, I think will all as students deserves to hear the pain we are facing because of this strike as we all have our different stories to tell, am using this medium to voice out my thoughts, this has not been easy for many students at all, let's go @campusconnect 💪🏾💪🏾

#campusconnectengagement

Y'know, it's funny when I see people who are so hopeful about the strike ending in May, and I just laugh, because it's obvious they don't know the state of things in our country.
It's really gotten so bad that even religious leaders had to talk. The Sheikh that spoke last week was temporarily suspended and Pastor E.A. Adeboye has spoken on the issues facing the country just two days ago, being Sunday.

This country is on the brink of destruction to be honest, and the Nigerian government doesn't care about the education of it's citizens, so I'm sure even tho Buhari is well aware of the strike, it's the last thing on his mind, especially with the upcoming 2023 election.

I'm a medical student in my 5th year. Lucky for us, our clinical postings are still ongoing and we have the option of online classes, but till when? Only God knows, seeing as our lecturers have not been paid for months on end.

The strike won't end soon. Or to be more precise, it would take a miracle for the strike to come to an end in May.

And as for what the authorities can do?
Well... I really don't want to raise my hopes too high😪😪👨🏾‍🦯

#campusconnectengagement

Nice one will be looking to participate in this one

I think the ASUU strike is proof that government over the years have little or no regard for education in this country. Sadly, we are in a country that the only way to get the government's attention is by going on strike. Lecturers aren't paid enough, universities aren't funded enough. Time after time, we've seen the federal government come to an agreement with ASUU that the money being owed would be paid, but in the end, they don't pay. Unfortunately, it's the students that suffer most the effect of the frequent face off between between ASUU and the federal government. I don't think the strike will end soon.
To bring a conclusive end to this saga, the federal government should make education a priority and make reasonable effort to fund and make education in this country up to standard.
#campusconnectengagement

The strike has done nothing good but harm to the student community at large nationally. First all, it has prolonged students stay in school longer than expected, wasting students resources and time. Most students just renewed their rent before the strike started which means they paid for a house that is not in use. It has affected most students plan of what to do after school.
In my observation, this strike will not be called off any time soon. Reason being that, the two parties (assu and FG ) have not started negotiations after assu declared the two month strike. Also, FG is not ready and cannot be able to meet assu numerous demands.

In order to bring conclusion to this strike, FG should do everything within their power to end this strike considering the fact that the students future is in jeopardy. Let them settle the demands of assu if not all, one-third. I'm sure the demands of assu are necessary to better the educational sector in the country. Assu should also consider accepting what FG has to offer while trying to bring this strike to an end. They should not expect FG to meet all their demands at once. Even they (assu) are not meeting up to standards in offering their duties to students. Let them be considerate for once and bring this strike to an end!

The students are at home!
End assu strike, FG and ASSU!!
Let our students go back to school!!!

#campusconnectengagement

Yeah, you are right!, the strike has done nothing than to prolong the years of students in school.

In as much as this situation is above the control on Nigerian student, they can make effective use of this strike.

Student can decide to acquire skills, either those relating to their course of study or those outside their course of study.

As for the rent issue, that's another great disadvantage, but I'll encourage student to work very hard as this strike will still last for some months, within this period, students can raise more than enough Money for their rent.

#ENDASUUSTRIKE!!!!
#campusconnectengagement

Thanks for stopping by @jueco

The one wey dey pain me pass na the rent own. I no get money for new rent o. And my landlord is a really strict character. I hope it All works out fine

I really thank God, my own case be say my house rent don expire but wetin my landlord dey after is the newly intake students to collect their money.

Personally, I believe that the ASUU strike would not end anytime soon. Let's face the facts: the government is not ready to heed to the demands of the Academic body. The government gives information and tries to deceive the media that there has been a negotiation. This has happened a number of times and ASUU always disproves these info.

The common news is that ASUU is owed billions of Naira by the FG. Negotiations made over years have never been settled after Federal schools continue their academic activities. This forces ASUU to call for more strikes and this has been the case for years. It is common knowledge that the Federal Government is currently not interested in meeting the demands of ASUU, but is rather concerned with the upcoming election

Currently, ASUU developed an automated payment system to help solve their current issue with the government. University Transparency and Accountability Solution was (UTAS) was developed and required to pass an integrity test before it could be certified for use. ASUU claims that UTAS passed the integrity test with 100% but the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Ministry of Communication keep foiling their efforts to certify the system.

For this strike to end, all the government has to do is meet ASUU's demands. ASUU is a victim of over a decade of fraud which FG has insisted on throwing at them rather than holding true to the agreements reached by both parties during past negotiations.

All in all, approving UTAS should be the first step in ending this strike. Given that FG has failed in paying the funds they owe, why not just allow the payment system offered by the victims themselves?

#campusconnectengagement

Best offer and best work

For me I don't see the strike being called off. It shouldn't even be a surprise if the strike will last till the end of this year, of which we are not praying for. But looking at the situation at hand based on the legendary propaganda between ASUU and the federal government. It seems that it is not even yielding results. Some students rentage are expiring while some students are sitted at home doing nothing.

Now because of the prolonged strike, the lecturers and students are now bearing the heat of the matter which is very bad.

The only thing I can say for now is that everybodybshould aleast find something and be doing right now. At least to utilize this opportunity that has come to everybody now, because I don't see this strike to be called off until government meets their demand.

The issue of asuu seems to be a never ending saga in which all university students must endure during thier time in federal university,

Time and time again we have seen the government promise to asuu and fail to. Redeem thier promise.

This time will be no different as the government of Nigeria has niether conpansion nor remorse for the plight of her students.

I forsee this srike last till after the presidential election next year.

It's sad to say that to solve asuu problem is within the reach of the federal government but time and time again they have refused to oblige to asuu needs.

The only thing that can put an end to this never ending strike saga would be a conpansionate and attentive government who would be sympathic to the needs to her citizens rather than their pockets.

#campusconnectengagement

ASUU Strike did more harm than good to the life of Nigerian students. Imagine studying a four years course for years, now I see the reason my elder brother made a statement when I gained admission he said "it's not about gaining the admission but whether the bad government of this country will let you graduate at the right time." From the look of things, I don't see this strike ending anytime soon because the federal government does not have the best interest of the poor masses in heart, therefore whether ASUU continues striking or not it does not really affect them as their own kids are not in any public varsity.

The government can actually put this strike to an end but they decide to watch the strike loom.

#campusconnectengagement
