Introduction

Hello every one in this @campusconnect community welcome to my blog today ,I trust you are all doing very fine . This is my post on the contest ' Dream university beyond current university ' . Kudos to the organisers of this contest for them providing us with this platform to express our unsatisfaction with our current university . The list of the reasons for my dismay with my current university in inexhaustible but I'll be explaining a few in this post .

Why I love it

My dream university from the get-go has always been Baze university, abuja in Nigeria because they offer my dream course which is petroleum engineering and the schools environment is student friendly but because of circumstances which were beyond me such as lack of sufficient funds to finance my programme in the school ,secondly lack of security in the region in which the university was situated and thirdly my parents selfish interest ( them wanting me to study in the East because I am igbo )
Due to this reason I mentioned above I was not left with much options to choose from I had to lower my standards and accept the reality of things because apparently private university was not an option reason being that my parents weren't too buoyant financially. I then opted for University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) . Though my dream course isn't studied in UNN. I had to settle for lower course because I couldn't stay back at home whilst my mates are in school , doing nothing, like the popular adage says ' and idle mind is the devil's workshop ' .In unn I accepted to study industrial chemistry because I feel it is closest to my dream course with hope on going for a 2nd degree in my dream university studying my dream course or doing my dream course at M.Sc level .
Asides my dream course not being studied in my current university (unn) ,I'll still choose base university because of their fast school calendar . They literally do 3 semesters in a year meaning that you can do 5 years course in 4 years in the school .Secondly they do not participate in ASUU strike which is a major problem of federal universities where you end up studying a 4 years course in 6 years because of the nonchalant attitude of the government of the country towards education . Thirdly there is a balance of both online and campus based lectures, students don't necessarily need to be in class always you can learn from the comfort of your hostel and they do have one year industrial placement where they are highly recommended to oil big oil firms like NNPC, PTDF, PEF, LNG etc . Fourthly they are being taught by highly qualified personnel's who are consultants to major players in the petroleum industry which after graduation gives them an edge over regular federal university graduate .
Do you think you can ever pursue a program there

I think after I'm done with my programme in Unn and I've secured a good paying job I will love to follow my dreams by financing my program(petroleum engineering) in Baze university because the relevance of a petroleum engineer can not be over emphasised in todays world because they play a very vital role in the economy of the country and studying in a renowned university is a plus to me because during the programme you'll also be taught drilling technology, reservoir engineering, petroleum production engineering, petroleum economics among many others .
The university provide student with a broad and balanced base of petroleum and gas knowledge and practical skills and equip her student with a range of skills applied in both petroleum and non petroleum areas and can provide confidence for employment.

Conclusion

I believe Nigeria will be great again and in a Nigeria where students wouldn't have to cut short their dream because of lack of finances, I also believe that the government can do better with regards to the issue of asuu where students would not have to overstay their due date in schools because of government nonchalant attitudes towards education

What a wonderful contest entry. I too had a similar issue because I wanted to go to University of Lagos but my parents were against it and I ended up coming to the university of Nigeria Nsukka. Wish you the best of luck bruv. Steem on

Thank you 😊

This is very nice, like you said one of the major issues with private universities is just cost, it is very very expensive but then they are well equipped and modernized. I just feel like most time public universities in Nigeria are over hyped. If I had my way I would be studying law In Afe Babalola I swear but here I am in UNN even though it is law I am studying. But the greatest gba gba is at home😂😂😂

Sad truth fam 😪
