There is something called public reputation management in context of friendship
It is possible to have a friend who has some relevance in the external world and you may not attain their height but the friendship thrives. It may happen you two are still close
Now here is the message, no matter how close you are so such a friend, if he is a president, when you two are out, address him as His Excellency, if he is a governor, permanent secretary, commissioner, MP etc., address them accordingly when you are together in public.
You give such persons another rank among outsiders who see "his close friend" use their title on them not minding the closeness of the friendship
It looks silly to come to public and address your "big friends" with the nick names you use in the closet. To me these names should only be used when intimacy matters most and in private.
Learn to respect your friends, that way you're giving them some edge and people seeing how you respect your friend won't only respect such a friend but will respect you too.
