FREEDOM

After I had admission into tertiary school, I was very happy to be free from so many things

No flogging by teachers or being forced to go for class or serve punishment for coming late to school, "finally I am free"; I told myself.

Now this was my definition of freedom,though I still had it in mind to study as much as I could.

And then the lectures began, from looking for lecture venues every morning to going back home exhausted.

Pretty soon I realised that in here, although freedom was fully guaranteed, your actions or inactions determine the level of your freedom, and then you would have to live with its consequences.

Because I didn't want to fail, I pretty soon forgot about the freedom and delved into studying full time; I must confess I didn't have much fun time from my year 1 to 3, I was busy studying.

It paid off though, I got to relax a little bit in my year 4 after I had gotten a hang of some things and could balance school life and very few social activities.

But then I realized something; nothing goes for nothing. There were people who could operate school and their social life on a full-scale and one wouldn't suffer. There were others who did just school and did not have much of a life outside that anyway.

I was among the fellows who would come, chat with a few persons laugh and before you say "jack", I'm off to study.

I realised early, I had to do less of one, and more of the other, in order not to be totally bankrupt of one. So I would get the results I needed.

And as I navigate through life, I now realize that there is a level to this thing called freedom;

One must be willing to let go of temporary gratification in order to have something satisfactory that will most probably last a life time.

For freedom comes at a price; and we are bound by the consequences of our choices in our quest for freedom whether they are noble or not.
