Below is the review of an amazing book called REDEEMING LOVE by FRANCINE RIVERS.
“Isn’t she beautiful, Alex?” Mama said. Her voice sounded strange… tight, like she was choking. “Isn’t she the most beautiful little girl you’ve ever seen?”
The above lines might seem familiar to many due to the recent release of the movie REDEEMING LOVE, an adaptation of one of Christian Famous authors, FRANCINE RIVERS’ book, REDEEMING LOVE. The movie which was released on the could be described as a beautiful adaptation of the novel but then like the famous sayings among readers,
“A MOVIE IS NEVER A COMPLETE ADAPTATION OF A BOOK” and this holds true in this case as well.
As mentioned above, the book is a novel under the Christian genre and focus on the major character named Sarah Stafford, later renamed Angel and Mara, each renaming, a beginning of an era in the character’s life. Sarah, whose story gets narrated from her early age is thrown into the storms of life as she faces lots of tribulation after the death of her mother. Francine Rivers beautifully weaves the story of Sarah into words as she leads us on a journey into Sarah, Angel and Mara’s life.
A journey that introduces us to Michael Hosea, another major character in the book, whose major strength could be described as longsuffering, a trait which the Bible describes as a fruit a Christian must bear in life.
Characters
Fracine Rivers’ introduction of Michael brings in a twist in the story, changing it from the uni-directional line that the book was taking. Along the line, we get to meet other characters such as Lucky, Alex Stafford, Cleo and so many other characters.
Sarah who at a young age gets exposed to sexual exploitation by her dead mother’s lover, decides to go deeper into it after escaping her childhood’s worst nightmare which . She finds herself in a town that had access to her body after sprinkles of gold dust.
She meets Michael Hosea in the same brothel when she works, a big contrast to the character of Michael Hosea. Francine Rivers successfully leads us into a relationship with a rocky start...
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK
The book which has been described by many in their 20's as captivating has also gotten the same response from me.
As a young believer, this book holds true in every sense of Christianity as it points out the needed virtues. Virtues such as patience and fear of the Lord.
Over time, christian books have portrayed religion in such a beautiful way, and pure way which seems almost impossible to attain and follow but Francine was able to show every speck of realism in it, the ups-and-down in it, making it relatable to how christianity really is.
And not forgetting how Francine beautifully merges the modern society and the ancient society (as the book's setting is the society of the 19th century) in a way that would continue to relate to this generation and more to come.
And of course, not forgetting the suspense in it, the beautiful way Francine carved the suspense... Not just in the story line but also in revealing the genre which the book falls under.
Francine Rivers' Redeeming Love will certainly keep you turning from page to the next page, without wanting to miss a line.
