  1. Immediately you graduate, try and get a student copy of your transcripts. Dont wait till you need it to start running around.

  2. Don't isolate yourself from your lecturers. Don't think you won't need them when you graduate. For scholarships and graduate school abroad, academic references are still preferred.

  3. Ensure you get a good project topic in your final year. Talk to your project supervisor about doing work that is good enough to be published. Having publication to your name will boost your chances of getting funding.

  4. Try to finish with a good grade. Not all scholarships requires you to have a first class. But many scholarships have a grading system.
From what I have seen so far, First class graduates get the most scholarships.

  5. As an undergraduate, you must start showing interest in a particular area in your discipline. This will enable you to focus and learn more.

For example if you are studying electrical engineering, we have different areas under it.

If your interest is in power, it will enable you do a project that is power related. Your IT and volunteering activities will be done in this area.

Another example is a student of microbiology who has interest in food microbiology. Such a student can do her final year project in that area, volunteer with Nafdac or SON or even volunteer with the food microbiology section at the institute of industrial research FIIRO at oshodi in Lagos..

  1. Take your industrial attachment seriously. Ensure that it's done in a place you can get valuable experience suited to your interest.

You can't be interested in food microbiology and be doing your IT in a medical laboratory.

You can not be a student of computer science interested in cyber security and be doing your IT in a bank working as a teller.

DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKES WE MADE.
