Good day everyone. Hope everyone is doing great? Today I will be writing On our Day 1 field trip. I am a student of Ahnady Bello University Zaria. A 400 level student Studying Geography. Let's get to it.
As a geography student, one of the skills that is considered a must have is to be able to collect data. The first location we visited was Sakadadi local government area in Zaria. A remote rural area that has setbacks when it comes to infrastructural development, technological development amongst others. After interacting with it's residents, it was concluded that the major source of income in the area is agricultural production. Most of them are farmers but engage in other activities like fishing, hunting , tailoring and trading.
Most of the houses found in the study area are mud houses with poor drainage systems. Just a hand full of houses in the area are of brick type.

Analysis from our data also shows that the major crops farmed in the area:
- Onions
- Tomatoes
- Cotton
- Rice
- Millet
- Groundnut
Cash crops like cotton and groundnut are used for economic purposes. While food crops like rice and onions are used for household consumption.
CHALLENGES
As a rural area that it is, challenges are inevitable. Common challenges that are faced in the area are:
- Lack of clean water supply
- Lack of chemical fertilizer
- Lack of good road
- Lack of sustainable electricity
Lack of proper transportation route
According to a local farmer, the major problem for them is the lack of modern fertilizer. They need fertilizer in order for thier crops to grow properly. And with the increase of price in chemical fertilizer, it makes it more difficult for these Farmers to get thier hands on them.
CONCLUSION
There are alot of rural areas just like these all over Nigeria. People in these areas face real life time struggles because of the lack of development in the area. The worst part of it all is that numerous complaints have been forwarded to the government but all seem to be in vain. But due to the hardworking nature of these people, most of the cash and food crops comes from rural areas like Sakadadi local government area. Thank you for reading everyone. God bless.
