The Academic Staff Union of Universities began a nationwide strike at the beginning of February. The strike marked a significant turning point in the division between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
I was bored yesterday, Wednesday, April 21st, 2022, and because my lodge is close to university, I called upon lodge mate, We decided to walk into campus merely to get some fresh air.
As I was scanning the surroundings, it came upon me that the ASUU strike has resulted in unprecedented retail and business closures in universities and across the country. Many stores, factories, and other enterprises have shut down.

So many questions keep popping into my head: What is the fate of these shop owners whose livelihood is dependent on what they earn from those shops? The ASUU strike has been ongoing for the past three months, and these shop owners must be struggling to make ends meet since their main source of income has been shut down, except for those who have multiple sources of income.
Because of the strike, productivity has decreased, resulting in lower profits. Due to industrial action or a complete shutdown of the academic system, business owners on campus are losing money. They are losing pay since there is no work and no one to patronize them. They have completely lost their means of subsistence.

Strike action in Nigerian higher institutions is a bad wind that blows not just on business owners but entire university community as a whole have suffered from the detrimental impacts of the strike action in one way or another. Students, employees and business owners are all impacted by strike action because all activities are halted, which has a detrimental impact on everyone.
I hope something is done with regards to that as soon as possible because many people are indeed suffering and the federal government and the union are not thinking towards that direction But until something is done lets wait on the lord for his mercy...
