Hi student from all over the world, in this article I will be talking about my dream university and the reason I choose that particular university and hopefully it will be good enough to win the contest.

Since I was a little boy, I have been going to the farm with my dad and elder brothers. I grew up knowing every single farming particle based on the crops we usually cultivate which are mostly maize, cowpea, soy beans and sorghum. I have always wish to take farming to the next level when compare to what I grew up doing. I intend to go big and also include rearing of animal to provide food for my country people and also make earn need.

For my dream to become reality I have to study a course under agriculture, but agriculture is so wide and I want to know at least a little in every aspect so the only course that offer such challenge is Agricultural Engineering. After my secondary school education I got admitted to study Agricultural Engineering (National Diploma) at Division of Agricultural collage Zaria. Immediately after my two year diploma course I got admission to study the same Agricultural Engineering at Ahamdu Bello University Zaria (ABU) a bachelor’s degree program (B.Eng). But was ABU my first choice?

With what has been happening in Nigeria University such as every year strike, I never had the intension to enroll for my bachelor’s degree in a Nigerian university so during my final year in secondary school, I made a lot of research on the best university that offers agricultural engineering program so I came up Iowa State University.

Iowa State University is ranked among the best university that offers agricultural engineering program up to doctor’s degree. An agricultural engineering graduate from Iowa earn up to $4,000 more than a typical agricultural engineering graduate. The last state shows how good their curriculum is to get the best from their student. I was so confident that if I am able to get into Iowa university and study agricultural engineering I will know pretty much all I need to know concerning agricultural and this will help when setting up my own farm.

Sadly, I wasn’t able to attend Iowa University mostly because of the tuition and fee where an international admitted undergraduate student will have to pay almost $13,000. My family cannot afford to pay such amount of money and remainder the $13,000 is without accommodation and feeding. Another factor that really affect the situation was the change in Nigeria government in the year 2015 which saw a huge increase in the exchange rate of Naira to USD. I also try out some scholarship but what they are willing to offer was almost nothing compare to what I am asked to pay so that will not help my financial situation.

I was sad not been able to read my dream course in my most preferred university but I was able to get admitted into one of the best university in the country that offers agricultural engineering program and in conjunction with institute of agricultural research (IAR) I have been able to learn alot of new development in agriculture. I am in my fourth year in the university and I have learn a lot which as widen my scope on the whole agriculture areas and I am confident after graduation i will be able to set up my dream farm and achieve my goal.

CONCLUSION

Even through, I wasn’t able to go to my dream university I did not let that affect me in any way. I took my studies very serious because I have a goal to achieve and that goal will heavily determine my finance status in the coming years.

Agricultural Engineering sounds like the perfect choice for you! It's awesome that you didn't let not being able to attend your dream university hold you back from pursuing your studies seriously. Keep up the hard work, and I'm confident you'll achieve financial success in the future. By the way, if you're interested in remote work opportunities, you might want to check out this article about Best Degrees for Remote Work. I think it would be a nice update to this thread.
