It's 8:00 pm Nigerian time, the Super Eagles of Nigeria lined up to take their 3rd challenge against Djurtus of Guinea-bissau. Remember their first and second challenge was very successful, so hopes are high, questions are raised, eyes are fixed on the screen for some while others that could make it to Stade Roumde Adjia were beating their drums, blowing the trumpet and jubilating. Some patriotic spectators even covered themselves with Green white paint and funny outlook, of course that is how we do it in Africa, a continent filled with happy people. So today the Super Eagles will repeat their Green white jersey which represent their national colour.
Piiip, the sound of the whistle signal kick off, the game has begun. For the first 10 minute the auditorium I was sitting to watch the game was silent despite being filled with over 200 people of different tribe, ethnicity, language and religion, we all sat together for 10 minutes without uttering our different opinions of what the outcome of the match will be. It's getting to the first 30 minutes of play no ball has got into the net yet, rather some beautiful chances was missed. The coach, Mr. Eguavoen seems unpleased with the style of play, all written in his face as the camera points to him. Standing in the sideline, he is urging his players; come-on you can do better than this. In our auditorium, uproar of disappointment was express as the man Sardiq kept missing it.
"Guinea bissua match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria is a West Africa derby, so you can't expect it to be easy for our boys". That was my response to those sitting with me doubting if the Super eagles can make it out of group stage unbeaten. We had the strikes all through first half but it wasn't aimed at the target, so the half came to an end at 0-0.
The second half began shortly, hopes were high as expected, come on Super Eagles we can do this, I yelled out as if they could hear me from my visual staduim. "O'boy wetin dey happen na!" people exclaim. Multi voices can be heard even from a distance, that is the spirit of football, it signifies that the match is interesting.
56 minutes of play I heard a loud jubilation, goallllllll. I missed the scene, I had put my face down just for a moment. Goallllllll, people stood up to hug each other. I could sight a Hausa man hugging an Igbo man. Men of two different ethnicity finding agreement, love and excitement, of course that is the spirit of football. "Abeg how e happen na" I was eager to watch the replay, thanks to the technology of replay, I could see what really happened. It was my own time to shout goalllll. This time not as loud as others because I had missed the moment.
Sadiq scored at last.
75 minutes later another goal finds the net, it was an unbelievable dribble by Moses Simon, dribbling pass 5 defenders he still strike from the box hitting the cross-bar and rebouncing. Ekong, the most zealous defender/assistant captain finished the ball with a quick strike. Another Goallllll for the super eagles.
The match came to halt after 90+minutes of beautiful display, careful defending and two incredible goal. What a match! Nigeria 2- Guinea bissua 0. It is their 3rd win, the only team to qualify with all three points. This particular convocation of eagles are so super. 3 match cleared in a fantastic style, 4 more to go!
Soar higher Super Eagles!!!!🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
