What a final it was as the trophy didn't come home as the English fans would have wanted but rather it went to Rome. A lot went down in the game and it is only natural to cast blames when results didn't go the way anyone wanted. It was a lovely match and in the end, Italy won the trophy at Wembley and it was heartbreak for the English fans all over the world because the wait continues.
England got off to a flying start and the ever impressive Shaw starter the attack down the line when he found Harry Kane who then laid a long pass to Trippier on the other end. Trippier's long pin point cross found Shaw at the edge of the box who then smashed home a one-time shot that came off the inside of the post into the back of the net to register the first goal of the game in just 2 minutes. Italy were caught off guard and then disorganized with the early blow from England. Shaw got his first goal for England at such an important time and in such a great occasion in the final.
In the 35th minute, Chiesa almost produced a moment of magic when he left his markers for dead and he drove into England's half. His shot just missed narrowly and if it had gone on goal, Pickford wouldn't have been anywhere near it to stop it. Insigne won a freekick just outside the box and his freekick effort went just over the bar in the 50th minute much to the relief of the English fans.
In the 62nd minute, Verratti found the lively Chiesa who as his usual way, held his ground and drove into the box. He released a quick shot which took the alertness of Pickford to stop it. In the 66th minute, Italy got back into the game and pegged England back when a lovely corner kick was delivered into the box. Verratti got a head to it and it came off the box before Bonucci bundled it home. Up to this point, Italy had dominated in every aspect of the game and England were holding on for their dear lives.
The game ended and 30 minutes of extra time was played and still, there was nothing to separate the two sides. The game headed for penalties which is a game of luck.
Belotti got his low drive shot saved by Pickford to give the advantage to England. Unfortunately, Marcus Rashford stepped up and missed his own too despite beating the goalkeeper, he couldn't beat the post as he struck the upright.
Bernasdeschi stepped up for Italy and he struck his effort down the middle to tilt the advantage back to Italy. Sancho stepped up and he got his penalty saved too. Jorginho was supposed to give Italy the winner but Pickford showed bravery and saved it. Saka came up to play his part for England and his goal would have drawn them level but unfortunately, he lost it as well and Italy won 3-2 on Penalties.
England would have to continue their wait while Italy went to Rome with the trophy.

This match was engaging on a high level. The two teams were formidable and fought with all they had. Unfortunately, the lottery nature of penalties became the decider. Congrats to Italy for winning the tournament.
