Hi everyone,

Have you heard lawot-lawot and lawlaw? Are you familiar of that kind of Filipino cuisine?

Lawot-lawot and lawlaw is very known in Visayas. Lawot-lawot is a Bisaya dish made of mixed vegetables with coconut milk.

I prepared my own version of lawot-lawot. The vegetables I used are those readily available at the backyard such as, sweet potato tops, horse raddish, chili leaves, lemon basil and coconut milk.

The picture below is a coconut milk with lemon basil for aromatic delights of lawot-lawot. And a plate of sweet potato tops, horse raddish and chili leaves.

Ingredients:

  • Sweet potato tops
  • Horse raddish
  • Chili leaves
  • Lemon basil
  • Coconut milk
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Salt

Procedures:

  1. In a pot, put the not creamy coconut milk (it is the second batch of gata making with added water). And put the garlic and onion.
  2. Boil the not creamy gata.
  3. When it boils, put the sweet potato tops, horse raddish, chili leaves and the creamy coconut milk with lemon basil (creamy gata is the first batch of coconut milk without added water).
  4. Add salt to taste and bring it to boil.
  5. When it reaches it boiling point and the soup is creamylicious it is done.

  6. Best serve when hot.

Lawlaw is a preserve small fish in a vinegar and salt. In serving lawlaw, we need to clean or wash the preserved small fish with nee vinegar. Remove the vinegar vinegar after cleaning then squeeze calamsi and add tomato.
