And why is it so long?
This was actually a recent, late night harvest. We needed some Horseradish for a meal, so we went out to see if we could find a good one. Horseradish is grown for its roots, so with out rocky and clay soil, that can be difficult here. However, this one was basically lying across the surface, just under the mulch. I guess it too the path of least of resistance, and wound up being about three feet long! Wish we had some better photos.... but we ate it! Have you ever grown Horseradish? Do you like the "sting" of it?

I have never heard of Horseradish before but as you mentioned it I went online to know more about it. I think it will be great have a spice like that over here where we eat a lot of pepper

We do not use it in our home, but I like that you made the effort to grow and eat some of your own. Teaching your children how to do these things for themselves is something that not many children from this generation learn. Much respect.

I had to look up what that actually is - Meerrettich, so no horses in it in German. :)
It has its place in the traditional german cuisine with certain dishes, but I'm not a big fan of it. Its weird stuff: it appears like a vegetable, but actually it has a function more like mustard. And I like mustard better.
PS. Btw, did you ever try to grow mustard? That should work in your region, I guess. And its pretty useful stuff.
