PROMOTE MY COUNTRIES TRADITIONAL FOOD CONTEST

in hive-123102 •  4 years ago  (edited)

Immediately I saw this contest, I decided I must join because it’s an opportunity to talk about the beautiful delicacies in my country, Nigeria. Because I am a proud Nigerian, proud of everything Nigerian, including our jollof rice, Lol.

In Nigerian we don’t have just one traditional food because we are a large country with over 250 ethnic groups and tribes. We have 36 states and in each of these states we have so many tribes with their different traditional foods. But for this contest I’ll be focusing on the 3 main tribes in Nigeria and their traditional food/ delicacies. These 3 tribes are ; Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. These are the dominant tribes in Nigeria or majority tribes in Nigeria, most of the other tribes are minorities.

  • The (Nigerian) Igbo food:
The Igbo tribe has so many delicious delicacies, I’ll be showing you 2 of the food from this tribe.
This is ABACHA, also called AFRICAN SALAD

Incase you are wondering, yes this food tastes as delicious as it looks, well spiced and garnished with different proteins, abacha is a healthy food.
When you go to visit an Igbo person or go to any of their occasions, the abacha is always served. It’s main source or raw material for making it, is the cassava. Even though it kind of looks complicated, it’s so easy to prepare.

-The second Igbo food is the Egusi and fufu

A very yummy and delicious food, this is egusi soup with fufu( made from cassava) the raw material for egusi soup is Melon seeds ( called egusi) it is blended or grounded then used for the soup. Most people use a lot of protein ( assorted) like meat, fish, prawns, stick fish, chicken etc... to garnish their egusi soup. If you are not a Nigerian and you ever come to Nigeria, do not leave without trying the egusi soup, you will love it!!

  • Next is the (Nigerian) Yoruba food:
The major food of the Yoruba tribe is the Amala and Ewedu soup with gbegiri

I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say it’s such a colorful food, yellow, green, red, so colorful. Lol.
The Ewedu ( the green thing) is made by using broom to beat the vegetable inside your pot. Sounds strange, but it’s a beautiful sight to watch.

  • Then the Hausa(Nigerian) tribe
    Tuwo Shinkafa

The Tuwo is the white ball, made from rice it can be used
Or eaten with any type of soup.

This is a Hausa soup that can be used for any type of swallow, it’s very healthy.

I could go on and on and on about the traditional food in my country because we have a lottttt!!! Very healthy and beautiful looking delicacies . We have so many unique dishes/ food, some are even medicinal because they contain a lot of vegetables that are good for the body.

Most people prepare these dishes in their houses and they are also sold in restaurants. These traditional dishes is what an average Nigeria person consumes almost every week. It has and will always be part of our tradition to prepare these delicacies in our traditional weddings , child dedications and other traditional functions.

If you are ever in Nigeria, try out our traditional dishes, i promise you, you are in for treat.
Have a lovely and productive day, thank you..
