Squirrel comes with different types, there are those that live on trees, those that fry and those that live under ground like rat.
About a month ago I have been keeping 3 kittens of ground squirrel in my house. I was keeping them in a half way rubber container which I use to enclosed it after feeding them. Actually, this isn't their usual place since they live under ground. They are really stubborn, they aren't like rabbit and grasscutters.
About a week a go, two of them die due to stress and uncomfortable nature in that rubber container. So, I decided to provide a nice structured Wire-mesh Cage for the one left.
I bought the Wire-mesh on Saturday and decided to design and weave the cage on Sunday. It was easy for me to weave since I didn't use any wood. I first decided to use nails and wood but I thought it would waist much of my time. I made it cylindrical shape using binding wires with both bottom and top closed.
The following is the process I took to complete the cage for my ground squirrel (Xerus):
Step 1 - cutting the wire - mesh
Step 2 - folding the wire - mesh to overlap to form cylindrical shape
Step 3 - using binding wires to tight all edges of the cylindrical shape cage
Step 4 - Both bottoms were enclosed to prevent the Xerus from escaping
Step 5 - I left some small hole on top to put the Xerus in the cage
The rest was feeding the Xerus with some cassava. Even though it feed on varieties of feed. Many people thing that it is herbivore but it can eat both meat and green forages. I would be varying it feeds from time to time. I was very excited to have completed it cage and kept it in the wooden cage.
Welldone sir for your hard work. But from the way I am seeing it. Is this wire mesh house not too small for the squirrel?
Or could it be Picture that makes it look as if it is small. I am talking about in terms of thier movement.
