I was awoken by a tab from my best friend, hey Michal, you have to wake up. That was Rebecca, my childhood friend. Re'ca and I attended Royal Academic Kiddies school at Uyo. Our parents were very good friends. We further studies at Mandela High school for secondary School and for our bond of friendship to grow, we decided to apply for the same Varsity. Rebecca having come from a average home, raised by a single parent was always there for me. Her mom divorced her dad while she was five years old and her father was left with her and her younger brother.
I sluggishly stood up from the bed, followed her to the bathroom and had a warm bath and then prepared for the day activities. As a fresher, we could not locate most of classes at first so we spent most of the time trying not to get lost in the massive environment we found ourselves. One afternoon, I was with my friends, Rebecca Rachael when their discussion reminded me that the portal was closing in two weeks time and I was yet to pay my fees. Hey girls, I called their attention. Portal is closing soon and I haven't completed my fees. Oh! Rebecca and Rachael chorused. Knowing Rebecca to be a fast thinker and just as I expected, she told me of a lady she had in mind that could help me. Although, it may likely be to work for her. I was at first so reluctant about the idea, how was I going to cope with my studies, I lamented. You know we would love to help but we too are students so please don't reject the opportunity, that was Rachael, and whatsoever may remain, we will complete it, Rebecca added.
I was glad, atleast, I had friends who I could rely on when I had problem but deep within, I was not happy about the working idea. What else could I do? My situation had made me accept it with good date. I remembered all the promises my parents made. We weren't that rich but my dad had vowed I will never struggle while in school. Hmmh! I heaved as tears threatened to roll.
