Today, I will be telling us a story about people in a particular area who wants to get paid for all that they do and if possible, they want extra.
Details
Hajarat and Fathia are just starting their lives as they are just getting freedom from their parents. As girls who are yet to fully stand on their own, their parents made sure that they interfere in their process of renting the apartment and also making sure that the two of them do not get duped or scammed by anyone.
The first month went by and these girls were unable to rent an apartment. They have been taken to different apartments by house agents and caretakers but none of those houses were befitting. Unfortunately, they fell into the hand of a man who duped them of a hundred dollars just because he wants to help them rent a house.
After eight months of finding house in Lagos, the two eventually secured their apartment and they were now left with how to furnish it. This was supposed to be the simplest task overall but became the most difficult.
After the painter gave them his quotation of one hundred and ten dollars, he didn’t buy the original materials but bought fake instead and stole a whole eighty dollars from their money. That was a whole lot.
After that, they employed a furniture worker to help them build a chair. In the picture, the chair looked big and when he charged them, he charged them based on that big chair but when he brought the chair, it was looking extreme smaller than what they expected plus the fact that the chair was not very good nor strong.
Lastly, the girls employed a plumber introduced by a friend to them to help them fix the kitchen zinc. He collected the money for a new full material but when he was done with his job, the girls realized that he didn’t buy the new pipe. He only repaired the previous one but charged them for a new one. That was so unfair and since then, the girls were extra careful of the people they employ to help them with things.
Reflection
The story reflects on how people of a particular area live their lives. It’s sad that we are now in a world where no one can be trusted anymore. Cos, why will you be fully paid for your job but still want extra and the best approach to you is duping or scamming the person. That’s the height of it all.
I’m sure it is not only like that in the area but other places which gives you more reasons not to trust people everyday. I learned that we should be truthful because we may feel we are smart as the wicked one but we may be hurting other people.

It’s so disheartening to fall victim to people of low integrity. The extent of proliferation of these types of cases is alarming. It’s like men of integrity are now very rare and that’s why we must decide not to join this band wagon. We can make a difference wherever we are.
