A winter morning. A light mist was covering the Dinajpur Railway Station. Slowly the morning sun was moving to a corner of the platform. My train would be arriving between twenty and thirty minutes, so I arrived earlier than scheduled time. The platform was crowded. There were some people who were walking, some others who were anxiously waiting for their train. I sat down on a bench adjusting my bag.
I looked up and suddenly I saw an elderly gentleman sitting in the seat beside me. In his hand was a small suitcase and he had a certain worry in his eyes. He kept looking at his watch, glancing towards the tracks. He might be searching for someone or maybe was concerned about the train schedule I thought. I inquired to Uncle, “Hey, is everything fine, Uncle?” Do you need any help?”
A little relief came into his eyes as he looked at me. “Yes, dear, I travel through this route for the first time,” he said. I have my ticket, but I’m not sure from which platform will board the train.”
I checked his ticket. His train would leave out of platform number three, I informed him. He seemed very pleased by this and thanked me. We went together towards platform three. When we walked together he shared his life story with me.
"I am going to visit my son’s home," he said. I have not seen him for anything other than a number of years. While I live in the village, he works in the city. For traveling all alone at this age is a little scary but the joy of meeting him makes all that fear disappear.
His words made my heart warm. I helped him into the train when it arrived. He said, "thank you dear from the door and waved at me. You are now my unknown friend, today."
The train left. I stayed there to watch as the train moved away from me. His words had left a deep impression on me. These little moments of life is what makes us truly human I thought. The small act of kindness, smile or giving someone just a little of our time is what real beauties of life.
Impact/Learning.

My experience at the railway station went beyond. Assisting an unfamiliar person brought me a new friendship which taught me about eternal love and universal support for people regardless of age.
True happiness lies in small acts of kindness. However, if each of us is modest enough to offer someone a helping hand and show compassion, this world will become much more beautiful.
