Hello esteemed readers, Stories, learnings and reflection #08 have brought us again to share experiences so as to gain knowledge. My sincere appreciation to @alexanderpeace for always convening us here. This week I will be telling us an unforgettable childhood experience that happened to me and my junior Brother. The title is Time reveals secret
MY CHILDHOOD ENCOUNTER |
---|
I come from a home where discipline was held in high esteem and farm work was always the price to pay for derailing. Despite how stubborn and inquisitive we were, we carefully avoided things that would take us to the farm between the hours of 4pm upward reasons being that this hours was always set aside for playing football with friends in a nearby primary school. One day, something happened that altered our plans.
It was a faithful Saturday morning and in Nigeria Saturdays are always designed for series of activities ranging from staying off school, cleaning up and washing of things, going to the markets and cooking, attending events and sleeping. Basically, this happens to be the routine of a "Common Nigerian" this Saturday was different as they was no normal tasks as usual rather we were asked to go and plant melon in the farm while daddy went for a marriage and mummy went to a Church program.
We planned our day carefully and designated 11:00am to 3pm for the planting of melon then 3:30pm to 6:pm for playing football with friends. At around 9:00am in the morning, neighbor brought light so we decided to view a seasonal movie called Merlin while waiting for 11:00am. The movie took us off this present world until Nepa took the light at about 2:30pm it was at this time we realized that our lives where at stake.
Our minds were made up for the evening football so we took the melon and ran as fast as possible to the farm Henry, a childhood friend accompanied us to as to hasten the process. We got to the farm about some minutes passed 3 so we applied speed in our planting. Despites our speed, 4:00pm came yet, we still had more than 100 stands of melon to plant. It was at this point that Henry suggested that we should bury the melon in our neighbors' uncultivated farm land so as to hasten the process.
With the help of Henry, we digged a big hole and poor all the melon into it and pretended as though we've planted everything. Dad and mom thanked us so well for planting everything and our coach and teammates celebrated us for turning out for training. Days, weeks and months as passed, now was the time for weeding. We accompanied mummy to the farm for weeding only to discover that the melon we buried had germinated.
We tried disappearing from the scene or possibly make mummy to become blind so as to hide the evil we did. All was fruitless as mom understood what had happened.
We expected Mom to deny us food, beat us thoroughly, or even kneel us down for the night. Surprisingly, what she did creates an impact that guides me till today.
THE IMPACTS OF THE STORY |
---|
Mummy did not inflict pains on us. Rather, he made us sat down on the floor as she narrated You see, time reveals secret as nothing hides for forever be it good or evil. The same way the hidden melon germinated despites being hidden is the same way our evil deeds would be brought to light something.
She added that the pains we would have persevere in planting all the melon (doing the right) would not in anyways be compared to the consequences of hiding the melon. We promised never to do such a thing again in life and this principle keeps me moving. The incident is something I wish not to forget in a haste and I want to invite @zulbahri, @basil20, and @bossj23 to join the contest
