Introduction

Hi steemians, I want to quickly share with you how my children celebrated their children's day. Nigeria celebrates her national Children's Day on 27th May every year. When we were kids, we didn't understand what that meant, but all we cared about and thought about was how we'd be going to the stadium to march and how we'd be enjoying ourselves because it used to be an enjoyment day.

I got to know about the significance of the 27th May when I was in high school, then got a fuller understanding at the university.

So it was another 27th May again. It started with an earlier celebration at the church yesterday as children were celebrated. I was there to cheer up the young ones. It was worth it because the children had fun and also enjoyed themselves.

Fast-forward to today. I had no thought of going out with the kids. My plan was just to stay at home and have some good time. So, about past 5pm, my younger sister, who works in the biggest mall in my city, called to ask if I was going to bring the children to the mall, as their company is running a free barbing for kids. I just told her that my children had their haircut on Saturday already.

She asked if I could bring them to the mall for sightseeing. Initially, I said no but my son, who heard it kept disturbing me, that we should go to the mall. So I quickly changed my clothes, dressed up and off we went to the mall.

At Tropicana Mall

To my greatest surprise, children were all over the mall. I saw people coming out in groups and people also moving into the mall in groups. By the time we got in, the entire place was filled up.

You see, children were just children, playing around with toys and balloons. Adults weren't left out as they took their children out to have fun. I saw many well-known faces. Some were my students at the school where I teach and some were my children's classmates etc.

However, after eating some snacks my sister bought for them, they played with friends, and it was time to go. We needed to leave because the weather changed as if it was going to rain, especially as I wasn't mobile. It was just a few minutes after we got home that the rain fell heavily.

Conclusion

My children were so excited when we got home and never forgot talking about all they saw. When their father returned from work, they used the Tropicana mall stories to welcome him back. It was really a nice outing, and worth it.

I'd love to know how my friends celebrate their children on children's day and when theirs is usually celebrated, if not by a Nigerian.
