Clive was impoverished by debt when he had first arrived in India in 1744. With his estimated worth to be over £100 million in today's money, he became the richest self-made man in Europe,
By paving the way for the British to devour the whole of India, he was one of the founding fathers of the British Empire. His military skill and unscrupulous methods
ensured that the French were driven out from the vast subcontinent.
Clive was unabashed. A highly controversial figure even in his own time, his exploits in India saw him acquire extraordinary personal wealth by corruption, fraudulent, and dishonourable means.
He saw the shedloads of gold and jewels which came his way as gifts, war booty and terrorization.
Robert Clive only ever was famous only ever was rich from the robbery and the plunder of the indian subcontinent. There are no redeeming features about the man he was hated in his own lifetime even by people there in the British.
Robert Clive committed suicide in his townhouse in Berkeley Square on 22 November 1774, at the age of forty-nine only.
He was cremated in a secret night time ceremony in an unmarked grave without plaque.
Actually he cut his throat by the guilty conscience.
In the public imagination, Clive had remained The Madras Tyrant' and the symbol of East India Company corruption.
It connected us, it connected india, it connected britain so why do we want to tarnish that? why do we want to damage that? why would we want to put it down? People of Kolkata are decent that they have never vandalized a single statue of British Empire.

Great job, nice to read about Robert Clive and his activities in India. Just as it was in Nigeria, the British were so powerful chasing other Europeans like Portugal away from the territory and establishing their influence and remained the only European power in the area.
