Steemit Engagement Challenge-S14W4 | Balancing Of Comfort While Adopting Fashion

Thanks to all team members of Steem Fashion&Style for giving me opportunity to participate in such a interesting global topic of discussion. Before I start my presentation I would like to invite three of friends to participate in the engagement challenge. @daprado1999 @viajarparasanar @paholags

My favourite dress is very casual but traditional one which is the wedding dress for the groom as well as priest for worshiping.

The top is Panjabi and bottom is dhoti (long loincloth). Dhoti and Kurta or Panjabi is our national dress for men also. They were earlier mainly made of cotton fabric and come in white colour.

But at the advent of linens they come in variety of patterns and colours mainly in case of Panjabi. In early days jaminder (Landlords) used to ware dhoti in stylish fashion of Kocha (a very unique way of pleating the cloth which take the shape of Lotus flowers when held in hand as shown in the pic of ready to wear Dhoti 👇). Normally there are specialised people to iron the dhoti in particular manner that create kacha and kocha. Kacha is a pleated portion of dhoti which goes behind between the legs and tacked in waist dhoti top end warped in the waist. Other end pleated like kocha fall from the top end of dhoti knot at waist. The bottom of the kocha is actually more closely pleated with the help of knife in the starched clothes.

Few women in the Indian State of Maharashtra also ware saree in dhoti style but they don't style with kocha in hand.

As no other clothes other than starched cotton gives you the pattern of kocha which is also expensive, a new design called patiala come into picture. It was also called dhoti salwar for ladies. In this case the fabric is stitched in such a way that the folds appear like dhoti with out any option for kocha and kacha. It's a fusion of dhoti and salwar. Depending on the type of clothes and stitching technique different patterns can be created. However this type of wear could not replace dhoti for men. The cost of pleating of dhoti will be no lesser than ₹100.

Therefore a near substitute 'ready to wear' dhoti came into market. Main disadvantage of wear dhoti in stylish kocha and kacha is to preserve the pleats after single use. Particularly the ready to wear dhoti can't be repeatedly used as it cannot be pleated again.

Normally one require a gold or gold plated buttons with Jewels for the Panjabi as most important accessory. Gold is equally important in men's fashion. Rings and chains are very common in men's fashion. In cases over stylish gents wear a gold bangle or wristlet apart from expensive watches.

A hush puppies men's shoes or Kabli very fast replacing Kolapuri chappal or traditional Nagrai of Kolapur.

We also imbibe western clothes as we were ruled by the British for more than 150 years. We also ware Jeans, Jacket and three pieces in winter.

Jaminder also took a Kashmiri shwal in winter normally hang on shoulder exposing the exotic and indigenous niddle and thread works of Kashmiri artisans.

Pashmina wool with diameter of 12-15 microns are incredibly soft, silky, lighter than linen and very warm. They are available as clothing and can be tailored or wear as shawl. There may be niddle and tread patterns or weaving with colourfull wool.
