The Debate (no.15); Book smart a step ahead of street smart.

Greetings to the amazing steemians in the house.

I came across this debate yesterday and I must confess that it really kept me thinking over and over again about which is better between book smart and street smart. it is undeniable that both are important to our existence. And choosing which is better between the 2 is challenging.

Nevertheless, after thinking and viewing their advantages from different angles, I have come to understand that Book Smart is a step ahead of Street Smart. But then it crossed my mind that people always say experience is the best teacher. That is to inform us that someone who is street smart has more advantages in solving practical problems because he or she has practical experience.

Just when I was still thinking of the above statement, I remembered asking my mathematics teacher the reason we are not taught the calculations that normally take place in offices or real-life calculations rather than having to find X and Y or dx/dy. Hmm, you won't believe what he said.

He said to me " Chris, finding X and Y or dx and dy are more challenging than those real-life calculations you are talking about. X and Y or dx and dy are made to widen your horizon, and they make your mind and thinking ability faster and more effective. And because your brain has experienced the difficulty of X and Y which is more difficult than that of real-life calculations, by the time you find yourself out there or being faced with any real-life calculations, you will be able to trash it within minutes because you have experienced something more complex.

With this response, I understand that provided you are book-smart, solving real-life problems will not be a big deal. The reason is, that almost everything is documented on the Internet or written in books. As such, you can do your research and find your way out.

Looking at it from another angle, it is clear that people who are book smart are the people on top while the street smart are below. Book smart people move the world and they make things happen. Today, he who has more academic qualifications is entitled to be in higher positions in offices.

Today, if you are not book smart, you can not be in any political position or control an organization.

Apart from that, it is difficult to relate with people, especially on social networks like steemit, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other networks because you need to be able to read and write to be able to do so. If not for being book smart, how do I get to share my ideas with you and also get to hear ur perspectives through this medium? I believe street smart couldn't have made be achieve this.

With the points above, I believe Book Smart is ahead of Street Smart. Remember, if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. Embrace education and the future is sure for you.
