A young man was eagerly looking for work for a long time, one faithful day, he was called for an interview in another state. He was very happy because that's a great opportunity to him but at the same time, he will need to leave his family behind. Now the question is, what did you think the man should do, follow is mind, that's rejecting the job because he loves his family or accepts the job because he will earn a lot of opportunity there in the state?

That's is actually a difficult decision to make, the aim of this post is to enlighten us about making the right decision. When making decisions, should we follow our head or our mind? welcome once again to my blog and ensure the read this post to the end, you won't regret it.

I mentioned following our heart and mind, what doest that means. Let's dive into what I mean by following our heart.

Following our heart

When I said making decisions by following your heart, it mean a decision based on feelings and intuition, rather than logic and reason. It's about trusting your gut instinct and listening to your emotions. For example, let's use the job opportunity as an example, you have a choice between two jobs;

  • One is prestigious with huge salary but it's outside the state and you have to be far from your family
  • The other one is less prestigious and with small salary but it's close to home.

At this instance, following your head is that you might choose to accept the Job which prestigious and with high salary while if you prefer to follow your heart, you will likely to chose the jobs with less prestige and low salary with your family or your love one. I hope you understand the difference between following your heart and your head?

the pros

Now what are the benefit of making decisions by following our heart? Here is it:

  • When you make decisions based on your feelings and intuition, you'll like to do those things that make you happy and brings you joy.

  • Another benefit is that it's lead to more creativity and passion because you can think outside the box and come up with new ideas solutions.

  • Making decisions base on your feelings and intuition can help you to stay true to yourself and your values as well as living a life that's aligned with your deepest desires and beliefs.

The cons

We have explored the benefit of following our heart when making decisions, now what are the cons?

  • Regret: when you're not thinking logically, you might make decisions that you later regret.

  • Another cons in following our heart is that it's can be very risky in a way that we may end up making choices that have negative consequences if we abandon the potential consequences. It's just like someone resigning from work without any plan of getting another one.

Now that we have explored about making decisions by following our heart it's time to consider decision based on our head. what does that mean? Here is what making decisions by following our head means:

  • Following our head means making decisions based on facts and evidence, rather than just emotions and intuition.

  • Making decisions using your intellect and reasoning skills to make choices.

  • You're weighing the pros and cons of each option, before making your final decision.

Let's assume I want to buy a car, if I follow my head, i will be thinking of my how much I will spend on the car, l the reliability of the car, maintenance and insurance, then after weighing all the factors i mention, that's how I will then decide whether i still need to buy the car or not.

Let me use a popular example, assuming you want to move from your state to Lagos State, you might think of the cost of living, the job opportunity and how you're going to live, how about your family, will you be able to cope, after considering the all the factors you now decide whether to move or not.

The pros

The best part of it is that it's help you to avoid making decisions you'll later regrets because you have already analyse the factors in it before making your final decisions

You can make your decision based on what you want instead of what others wants or based on peer pressure. It's makes you stay objective and unbiased

The cons

  • One con is that it can sometimes lead to overthinking.

  • Making decisions that lack empathy or compassion.

  • Make you feel disconnected from your emotions and intuition.

Here comes the main subject in this contest, our heart or head when making a decisions?

In my own opinion I can't say the heart of the head, I prefer finding a way to balance it. what do I mean by finding a way to balance it and how do I balance it?

How to balance it

How about using our head to gather all the relevant information with different factors, but then taking a step back and checking how we really feel about the situation. On my research about this post, I have learnt that It all about letting our intuition guide us , while still being informed by logic and reason.

My preference

So, in my opinion, I prefer to use both my head and my heart when making a decision, not just about choosing one over the other, but rather finding a balance between the two. I hope I have been able to convince you not to confuse you that whenever we are making a decision, we should try to find a balance between our heart and our head.
