Greetings dear Steemians, it has been a while since I last shared my article here on this platform due to many commitments but I'm back fully once again. I want to join the contest organised here in this community by @sahmie which talks about the DOES TECHNOLOGY SEPARATE OR BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER?.
Do you feel closer to your friends and family because of social media, or do you think it keeps you apart?
Yes, I feel closer to my friends using the social media platform because I have the opportunity to talk to my family far and wide without any single restriction. My family members are scattered throughout out the world hence we see and communicate with each other easily and faster through social media.
Social media enable me and my family to talk almost every day and because of that I feel social media keeps me closer to my family.
How often do you use your phone or computer to talk to people compared to meeting them in person?
I use my phone and computer very often to talk to my family and friends and this is because considering where I'm and my work, I'm always on system and trying to meetup with the work load of the organisation and company.
I spend almost 15 hours daily on my phone and system and I only spend a little time talking physically with others because I don't find it fun discussing with people physically.
Can technology help us make new friends, or does it mainly connect us with people we already know?
Certainly yes, technology goes a long way in helping us make new friends and I'm delighted to have join a lot of social media platform such as Steemit and Facebook as I have been able to meet people from around the world.
I have also met old friends whose contact I lost many years ago. I was also able to meet new people from different parts of the world. So this social media has been of an immense help to me in connecting with people around.
Have you ever felt lonely while using social media? Why do you think that happens?
Yes, sometimes I feel bored when using social media because there are periods where I don't find anything attractive with the happening or people on social media hence I will need people physically to talk to but in most cases I don't have the opportunity to do so.
So this periods are times I feel very lonely on the platform and wish to do something else as those and the things that gives me joy are not visible on the social media.
How has technology changed the way we communicate with each other?
Technology has changed the way we communicate with each other in so many ways. A very good example is the way we write text. When using social media to write, you will notice that most things are not written in full but since the party you are discussing with understand it is used that way.
Also there is a freedom of expression while using social media for communication. Physical communication makes a lot of people shy and unwilling to pour out their mind but social media allows people to effectively do that without any thought's.
