My picture of the day contest for this week is all about yesterday program in church which is the ash wednesday.

Ash wednesday is the beginning of lent and a new calendar In the catholic church doctorine, it also reminds us that dust we came dust we shall return and also a 40 days prayers and it ending my Easter Sunday.

This is the season that if you are not the fasting time you must fast aleast twice a week or once a week, it is also the season to draw us closer to God with prayers, and also it is the season to act good to people all around you.

Ash wednesday marks the first day of Lenten season in the catholic church calendar.

In this great period which is lent Christian makes many good sacrifices like visiting the less privileged with food, visiting the sick, shatter the homeless, pray for the death.

This ashes are made from palm fronds from last year palm Sunday, it will be burned and the priest will mixed it with holy water and pray over it, and after the prayers the priest will apply it to the forehead of everybody in church.

Fasting for this 40 days is from the age of 18 to 59 and you can fast on the time that you can go for like from 6 to 12, from 6 to 3, from 6 to 6 that 6 in the morning to 6 in the evening.

This period of lent catholic Christian try to follow jesus christ in his great passion by doing the stations of the cross, in which they follow him from when he was sentences to death by recieving the cross to when he die on the cross.
